Airgun guide for Dummies. A comprehensive reference if you are getting started

The following post is intended as a detailed general guide to categories of air guns and how they function to help those who are curious but know next to nothing. This post covers the many conversations I’ve had with powder-burning acquaintances at my club who marvel in disbelief at the...

The RWS 54 Air King: They say it's "not hold sensitive" and they are wrong!

First, this is a heck of a gun, and I'm a fan. But as with much in life, don't buy all the hype. I write tonight to add a layer of reality to all that I read and watched before buying this gun (mine is in .22). Here is a sample of the type of stuff you'll read about the RWS 54: "It...

Diana Bullseye ZR ain't what it's cracked up to be -- but there's a fix

I bought one of these Diana Bullseye ZR mounts for my HW97K and then gave up on it after a few tins of pellets because a significant amount of play had developed and I was getting a lot of point-of-aim shift. You'd get a group going-- then whammo, its like you started a whole new group at 1/2"...

RWS 54 AirKing -OR- Diana 56 TH?

Proof that I have absolutely lost my mind is in this post, which reveals I'm considering adding to my collection. I have become obsessed with these semi "recoiless" sidelevers thanks to YouTube, forums, et. al. -- tho' I really don't need a new gun. Regardless, I'm looking for voices of...

Marauder Cocking Crisis after FT rebuild

Hundreds, if not more than1k smooth, satisfying, accurate shots after a regulated Marauder .22 rebuild and then the cocking just mysteriously started stiffening up and then flat out became impossible over about 30 shots Oh, yeah -- I've dissassembled and reassembled twice -- and it all works...

Weihrauch HW97 - adjust power using washers in piston?

Is this advisable, and what size washers do I need? I recently replaced a broken main spring with a Vortek 12-ft lb kit and seals. It is still shooting a little slow. (10 fpe). Are washers my solution? Please let me know.

    LOL HW97 broken spring!!!

The irony is, it was acutally shooting pretty darn accurate and consistent at right about 9.5 ft. lbs. But when I opened it up for the first time to see about the low power I found not ONE spring ... I found FOUR! It was cocking fine and not making any wierd noises (no dings, pings, or...

    Lubrication for Yong Heng rebuild?

Piston, rod, rings, etc. kit has arrived from China for YH attempted rebuild. Any advice on pre-assembly lubrication would be appreciated. Have lith grease, moly paste, etc. not sure what to use or what’s necessary. Got plenty of hydraulic oil for crankcase. It’s the upper I’m thinking...

How to know when its time to rebuild your springer?

I recently bought a Weirhauch HW97 .177 and promptly became obessive about learning how to shoot it because my early results with the gun were so bad. (Here's my post on the issue). Anyway, I've gotten a lot better with the accuracy BUT it seems to me I'm wearing the damn thing out with all...

Yongheng Fail: crank arm shred and a warrantee nightmare

My YongHeng 110v machine siezed after a couple of months of use amounting to about an hour of total run time. Seller ShareProfit dissapeared from Amazon after refusing my demands for return, replacement or authorized repair. Amazon wouldn't cover it. I bought an extra SquareTrade warrantee...

Your Top Five Tips for hold sensitive springers?

I just took delivery on a highly recommended Weihrauch .177 HW97K, but it does not come with instructions on how to remove the Voodoo curse known as “hold sensitivity”. LOL Background: After a lot of PCP play, this is my first “high-end” (non-Walmart) springer, so my experience level is low. ...

I just blew a Yong Heng burst disc. Help me not do it again

STUPIDITY ALERT: (if this narrative exposes what an idiot I am, please keep the abuse good-natured, LOL) I'm filling to an AirHog bottle via a double ended male connector. Once I reached pressure, I closed the bottle with compressor still running and blew the disc before I could open the...

Are we an easy target for anti-airgun regulation?

While the focus of anti-gun anger is on semi-auto "assault" style weapons and handguns, perhaps its worth wondering whether air guns might be low-hanging fruit in local jurisdictions seeking to "do something" about guns? Just ask any YouTuber trying to put airgun content up what the climate...

How to safely fill a tank from a home compressor

I couldn't get a message to the vendor, so let me try the voices of experience here. I just pulled the trigger on a Yong Heng, and now need to get a bottle system to mate with it, since I don't always want to direct fill guns from the machine. My question is, how to fill a backpack bottle such...

Best COMPACT and POWERFUL and REGULATED and QUIET .25 bullpup?

I think this boils down to Cricket Vs. Vulcan (w/ add-on moderator), but maybe not. Looking for opinions or better ideas. FYI, I think the Impact is too long and too expensive. Here's the deal: I love my Marauder, but it is simply too big to haul up in the deer stand on my bowhunts. It's...

Quest for the Holy Grail: 1" @ 100yds with Gen 2 Marauder .22

Good gracious this took a lot of time, effort, $$$ and I'm still just a little short, but.... I finally got all the stars to align for an early morning shoot with no wind and got some decent groups which were repeatable. I measure this optimistically as 1 1/8", maybe you'll call it 1 1/4 --...

Maryland Airbow Regulation: Read It Carefully Before You Buy

Yes, Maryland legalized Airbow hunting as of Nov. of 2016. NO you MAY NOT hunt with said device during ARCHERY AND MUZZLELOADER SEASONS. The only season the Airbow and any other pneumatically driven arrow may be used is during the regular firearms season. I'm posting this because this is an...

Killin' Stuff: An Essay on Ethics

I'm convinced that deep in the reptilian brain, most male humans are hard-wired to hunt and find it hard to suppress the “thrill of the kill”. The scientific debate on whether and how evolution accounts for this is not settled, which I find curious. My non-scientific experience is that it's...

Noob's Guide to Marauder Customization and Airgun Addiction

Here are some things I learned in my first year of airgunning with Marauders: YouTube can make you delusional. If you think you're going to shoot like BWalton, Ted's Holdover or Matt Dubber with the stock Marauder you just bought from PyramidAir, get a hold of yourself. You have a lot more...
