Starlings down with aid from blackbirds

And one more today. This one was the first successful use of my new LRF. It indicated 61 yards. Chairgun said hold over .8 MIL. Thwack. Starling down. Getting to the edge of range for this setup, with the 2-7x on the Taipan short, but it did the job.

Starlings down with aid from blackbirds

Three more this morning, they are landing in a cotton wood outside my window, 35 yards away, at between a 40 and 50 degree incline. Wind is a rare 2-3mph so they are easy pickings, resting on the window sash. The blackbirds are also in the tree, raising a ruckus when I come out to check for...

Starlings down with aid from blackbirds

I was amazed they kept coming back and landing in the trees and getting picked off. I think the redwing blackbirds harassing them must have confused them. Perhaps they were trying to defend territory? Maybe they were in the midst of the birds portion of the “birds and the bees”?

Starlings down with aid from blackbirds

Anchored a starling in the yard today, out the upstairs window about 25 yards away. There must have been 25 out there and the flock flew away and then started coming back. At that time a flock of red wing black birds came and landed in the trees. This made the starlings wary to land, but wanted...

    Velocity for barn gun

I hadn't seen the Stoeger Ranger before just now. I like that extra vertical pistol grip.

    Velocity for barn gun

Brocock Ranger. Just the hammer spring on this one, as the regulator is not accessible and there is no gauge for reg pressure.

Taipan Taipan Veteran Long finding it’s legs

I have used my Veteran Compact .25 in the yard for lots of short range critter-gitter work. Hard not to like the Vets. Dat trigger doh…

Taipan Taipan Veteran Long finding it’s legs

I am not sure. I haven’t change anything since getting the Taipan from the previous owner. I am pretty sure he got it from Tony at Talon Tunes, so likely as tuned by Tony. The hammer spring is pretty much maxed out, so I am hoping it is accurate as is, or improves if dialed down a little...

Taipan Taipan Veteran Long finding it’s legs

I picked up this Taipan Veteran long in .25 on the classifieds here about a year ago. It has an extended plenum, external dial power adjuster, and a Donny FL Koi. I found an Element Titan 5-25x56 on the classifieds a few months later and mounted it up. I finally am getting it ready to put...

Tuning Taipan Compact .25 - lead free - sub 15 fpe

@MushroomPsyche @TimeRabbit @Dairyboy Since you guys have some experience tuning down Taipans: If I picked up a .22 Taipan Vet, and used the Huma tuning regulator to turn down the pressure, do you think the stock hammer and hammer spring would be good for trying to get the power down lower...

New all in one chrono setup

Supposed to be a low wind evening tomorrow, so I should be able to sight in a few airguns. Ran two of them over the chrony tonight so I can work up a starting point in chairgun.

    Barn Gun

I picked up the American Defense MFG mount that fits the Zulus and it is great for the Ranger. Got the Zulus right where I want it, much lower, and still clears the magazine. Also got it over the chrono today, getting about 647fps with the GTO lead free 11.7gr so just under 11fpe. Gotta...

New all in one chrono setup

I recently traded for this chrono from my cousin who wired it up, custom: It has the lights and the chrono running off of a 20v Dewalt battery. He and his son are getting a radar based chrono soon, so I got to take this setup off their hands.

Tariffs Explained - Pyramyd AIR Insyder

A pretty level headed conversation. I hadn't thought about possible across the board price raises, regardless of country of origin, to help mitigate higher prices on some products. Reasonable.

Calculating mil dot reticle holdover in Hawke 2-7x

Hi all, I just picked up a Vantage IR 2-7x32 AO with a mil dot reticle. My understanding is that the mill dot reticle on Hawke scopes would be accurate at 10x. Am I correct in thinking then, that I would need to multiply the mil values I get in chair gun by 0.7 if the scope is at 7x zoom...

Hawke 2-7x32 AO IR - Mil Dot Reticle visibility

I picked up the IR version of the 2-7x34 AO. I like the reticle, seems just about right for my purposes. Not too fine, not super coarse. Seems like a nice scope for the price.

Any experiences with Hawke 2-7x32 ao IR?

@Elgreco I am considering this scope for my Taipan .25 compact for squirrel/rabbit/(maybe one day iguana?) hunting. From your pictures, it looks like the reticle isn't extremely fine, which is what I am looking for: want a reticle I can pick out easily, since it won't be used at particularly...

Hawke 2-7x32 AO IR - Mil Dot Reticle visibility

There is a Vantage IR 2-7x32 AO with a Mil Dot https://us.hawkeoptics.com/vantage-ir-2-7x32-ao-mil-dot-ir.html This is the one I was referencing. It sounds like you are saying it will have a finer reticle because the IR reticles are etched? And the non-IR will be a bit wider?

Hawke 2-7x32 AO IR - Mil Dot Reticle visibility

I certainly agree there are applications for a FFP, I am thinking a SFP will be better for this particular gun/use case.
