Slow .25 or .30 cal for squirrels

”Like a chicken running around with its head cut off” Coordinated but clearly dead I’m my opinion. Pain is just a perception of damage and perception is a trait of the mind/brain. As to where the coordination comes from, the muscular nervous system is designed well enough to work without...

Slow .25 or .30 cal for squirrels

Thank you for the info Howler. I ordered some .217 and .216”. Hopefully one of them will shoot close to JSB 18s. If not, then maybe they will be good enough for 40 or so yards and in. That would help with the pass throughs that seem to be inevitable with the domes at those ranges

Slow .25 or .30 cal for squirrels

Will that pellet normally pass through a squirrel?

Slow .25 or .30 cal for squirrels

Those slugs would be fun if they are accurate. Which diameter NSA slugs do you use and how fast do you push them? My .22 marauder has the Lothar Walther barrel

Slow .25 or .30 cal for squirrels

I think I tend to aim too far back, thinking of similar placement to a deer. Tried it out again this afternoon. Dropped one at 62 yards, 2.3mil of elevation. Hit just in front of the shoulder joint. The pellet exited about 1/4 inch behind the eye. No surprise this one didn’t go anywhere. How...

Slow .25 or .30 cal for squirrels

Thank you for all the replies. I understand that shot placement is the most important factor. I have never liked taking headshots. If the squirrel moves just a fraction of an inch you could maim it. To me, the accuracy and repeatability of pcp airguns is the reason for shooting them. I’ve seen...

Slow .25 or .30 cal for squirrels

I think a .30 will be a bit too loud with impact. I will probably end up with another marauder. Likely almost cheaper to buy a used one than to convert mine to .25

Slow .25 or .30 cal for squirrels

I am using a jsb 18 at about 800 fps. I have used a .177 my entire life and finally got a .22 thinking it would help with them running off. I prefer to take body shots, most are between 25-65 yards. I can’t tell you how many I have shot where the bullet passes through both shoulders and it still...

    Great day in woods

If you hit them in the body from further than 50 yards will the slugs still pass through? Do they expand

Slow .25 or .30 cal for squirrels

I recently purchased a .22 marauder for pesting of squirrels. It’s ability to quickly dispatch a squirrel is underwhelming. I am now thinking I should get a larger caliber to stop them from running off. Not sure if I should pass up the .25 and go straight to .30 cal. How much louder is the...
