    Do you close one eye?

    Personally I recommend both eyes open for open sights or red dot (non magnified). With a scope, particularly high magnification lightly close the off scope eye.

    Scope levels. Is it necessary?

    Absolutely need to have the scope mounted correctly (level) to realize full accuracy of the rifle. Additionally having a bubble level indicator mounted on the scope after installation will ensure you have rifle (and properly mounted scope) as you prepare to squeeze off a shot. Just my opinion.
