Sheridan Blue Steak in .22 cal in the mid 70’s. Wish I still had it.

Personally I recommend both eyes open for open sights or red dot (non magnified). With a scope, particularly high magnification lightly close the off scope eye.

I’ve owned a Beeman R1 in .20 cal for 25+ years. Don’t shoot it much nowadays but when I do it still brings a smile to my face. 

Always tough to lose a pet as they are truly man’s best friend. Hang in there!

Absolutely need to have the scope mounted correctly (level) to realize full accuracy of the rifle. Additionally having a bubble level indicator mounted on the scope after installation will ensure you have rifle (and properly mounted scope) as you prepare to squeeze off a shot. Just my opinion.
