For alignment and safety purposes I milled a flat on the back side of the threaded rod post. It allows the set screw to clock the threaded rod and won’t allow it to rotate.

I have used Alden grabit micro extractors for small screws. They are two sided with a left hand drill on one end and extractor on the other end. Left hand drill bits work really well also.
