    Umarex Degassing a Notos

OK, that did it, thanks guys. Funny, I've seen in a couple videos where guys say that is a degassing port, and the screw does have an o-ring on it...go figure. Chris

    Umarex Degassing a Notos

So, I need to degass a Notos. It has been bottle converted and is pretty much full, so I don't really want to fire it 125 times to drain the bottle. I pulled the lower trigger group to get at the "degass" screw, removed the screw, nothing! No hiss, no release of pressure, like a screw for...

Yong Heng Last time I rebuild...ahhh..#6..#7 in 3 years

I am distracted by the larger twin cylinder compressors as well. -BUT- I have two Yong Hengs, each 3 or 4 years old (the second came to me at a flea market of all places for $100). I have rebuilt both of them, one of them twice. Usually at around the 30 to 40 hour mark, that's a lot of air. I...

Tis the Season for Umarex and Dawn Patrol!

I've had a couple teething problems with mine. Started with a teflon o-ring at the tip of the regulator stack going out. Then, actually twice, the Foster fitting valve stuck open thus keeping me from being able to keep air in the thing without a tether. And once I was shooting a duplex load (2...

Best looking air rifle you've seen, owned or shot

How about these? .257, .308, .357 and .457. All built on Cothran parts and super light hunting rifles. Chris

    Notos with Scuba Tank

Not sure I'd use my Young Hengs for that, but some of the others may work if you clean up their insides and run vegetable oil in them. Then again, you may be able to just filter the crap out of the fill air. I have looked inside my SCBA tanks with a borescope when changing the o-ring at the...

    Notos with Scuba Tank

Yup, I have a whole bunch of tanks now that run at 300 bar. First was the Benjamin, still use that, acquired a few more smaller ones from guys here and there that are also 300 bar and do fine. But once I started shooting big bore and in particular 457 and 510 caliber, those little tanks just...

    Notos with Scuba Tank

"Yes, there are relatively inexpensive adapters that will allow the use of a DIN male fitting to a K valve equipped cylinder. They are mostly a PITA." I used them quite a bit when I first started in PCP. I too am a scuba diver, so had the tanks handy. And the adaptors worked OK. Later on, of...

    Notos with Scuba Tank

Just happens to be an adaptor for sale right here on AGN: https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/scuba-something.1305854/ Chris

    Notos with Scuba Tank

Actually, the Notos is regulated to around 1800psi, so that's all you would need to be able to supply. A scuba tank, K valve adaptor and long hose would work perfect on a Notos. An 80 ft^3 tank starting at 3000psi would run the gun for hundreds if not thousands of rounds. Chris

    Umarex Smithing the Hammer

Well, I have not gotten into the rear end of the gun, but I do feel confident on the forward part. Now that I have figured out those two screws that hold the rear most shroud in place. Generally pretty straight forward. It's actually a nicely made rifle, lots more metal than you might think. I...

    Umarex Smithing the Hammer

OK, finally the thing started to leak fast enough that I could track it. I pulled off all the shrouds forward of the trigger assy. to reveal the bottle and regulator. There are two screws that are very well hidden in the rear most shroud that took me a while to find...sneaky Umarex. Air was...

    Umarex Smithing the Hammer

Looking for someone with experience troubleshooting/fixing the Hammer. I have one with a slow leak and cannot find it. Had the shroud and forearm off and done the water/soap thing on all the finttings, no dice. Kinda scared to dig into the back end without knowing what's in there. Anyone...

N/A Who's Casting or Wants to Learn?

That's just what I was getting at in my comments in post #45. You've basically taken a CF cartridge and downloaded it to just a tad over 22LR levels. That never made sense to me, I want my 22CF's to go like stink. You can even get chamber adaptors that allow you to fire a 22LR from a 22 CF gun...

N/A Who's Casting or Wants to Learn?

Yup, gang moulds are the way to go when you can get them. I have several. I guess, for me, I only have the one .250 (my other is a .257- different animal altogether). It's a Marauder and I don't shoot it that much, kinda heavy and unwieldy. I suppose if I ever get another .250 that I really like...

N/A Who's Casting or Wants to Learn?

If your just shooting pellets (not slugs), there is little reason to cast. .177 and .22 pellets are so plentiful and easy to attain, there is little reason to re-invent that wheel. Others may argue, but to me casting is not even a consideration until you get to .257 diameter. Yeah, I have had...

N/A Who's Casting or Wants to Learn?

Other than your personal comfort, cold temps should not affect casting at all. So long as your heat source can maintain about 750 degrees F and you can keep your mould hot, it'll work fine. Some even quench their slugs into water right out of the mould. Not needed for airgun use, we want the...

N/A Who's Casting or Wants to Learn?

OK, after so many years trying not to breathe lead fumes and who knows what else, I just built myself a fume extractor. Now, I don't recommend you do this without consulting your wife (she'll likely kill you if you don't) but in my case, my wife works with glass. So this worked out for both of...
