    Taipan Veteran .22 700mm CZ Recommended Ammo/Tunes?

I bought a 700mm CZ barrel for my Vet Long .22 a couple years ago in hopes of having an effective 100yd rig. I am open to shooting either pellets or slugs. However I am hand-pumping so 40+ fpe slammer setups are out of the question for now. So far I haven’t had great luck getting slugs to...

Tuning Taipan Veteran Magazine Not Cycling (Anti-double-feed not resetting)

Took the vet apart to adjust the regulator. When I got it back together the magazine is not cycling. When I watch the anti-double-feed ball bearing mechanism while cocking (after trigger pull), it doesn’t move. It seems the anti-double feed mech is not resetting. Top-down pic of breech below...

Tuning Looking for Tips/Tunes for Taipan Veteran w/ 700mm CZ barrel

I have a new 700mm barrel and power plenum coming in and was wondering if anyone had any good ammo recommendations and tuning setups to share (reg pressure, FPS)? I am not looking for record breaking FPE, just an accurate tune w/ JSB 18.1, RD Monsters, and/or slugs. Preferably getting at least...

Taipan Veteran: JSB 15.9gr vs. 18.1gr (SURPRISING)

Back in May, I bought a new Veteran Long .22 with LW barrel. At the time of purchase, pellet selection was a no-brainer: it seems like 95% of Veteran users shoot JSB 18.1s, and the other 5% are experimenting with slugs. Because I am hand pumping, there is a premium on shot count, but I still...

Why are factory regulator pressures so high?

Got it, thanks for the clarification Scott. I agree that there is no free lunch, however there seems to be 2 different efficiency goals to choose between: (1) MAX SHOT COUNT with low ES, and (2) MAX FPE / AIR USED. MAX SHOT COUNT: In this case, the goal is to maximize total shot count using...

Why are factory regulator pressures so high?

Thanks Scott, but I am trying to figure out why I am seeing conflicting viewpoints on this topic. From what I have read, the way to reach the most efficient and consistent tune for a given speed is to adjust reg pressure such that the MAX velocity is 10-20 fps higher than the desired velocity...

Why are factory regulator pressures so high?

Recently, I have spent a lot of time tuning my Taipan Veteran Long in .22. The goal of my tune is to shoot JSB 18.1s at ~885 fps with consistency of every shot including the cold bore shot(s). To do this, I have (painstakingly) tuned the Huma regulator to the point where the “knee” is 880-890...

    Velocity change overnight?

I should clarify that the sound isn’t abnormal, just a louder ping and sharper recoil impulse of the valve being struck hard. I guess I have gotten used to the quieter valve strike of a lighter HST setting, so when I turn it up it feels more violent. But evidently consistency goes out the window...

    Velocity change overnight?

Interesting. Thanks for sharing! Now that you mention it, I recall reading that you should use the regulator pressure to adjust velocity, and the HST to adjust efficiency. My only concern is that it seems like the increased TWANG that can be heard and felt with a high HST setting could impact...

    Velocity change overnight?

Appreciate the tip @Yo. I am using the factory power adjuster. Out of curiosity, is there a right and wrong direction to the spring? I have taken it out to degas, but it looked pretty darn symmetrical to me, so I didnt pay much attention when I put the gun back together. I am no expert but...

    Velocity change overnight?

I recently installed a Huma regulator in my Taipan Veteran Long .22. I set the pressure to 100 bar to shoot JSB 18.1s @ 885 fps. I now have ~300-400 shots through it since the install, and have experienced some velocity fluctuations early on that I have chalked up to regulator break in...

    Yet another Taipan Veteran problem

UPDATE: Shot a bit this evening after the wind died off. Only got 2 chrono readings before erroring due to low light. 878 885. After that, I shot 6 5-shot groups at 50 yards to see accuracy. Groups look acceptable to me. Note that I adjusted the scope after the top 2 bulls. That pull was due...

    Yet another Taipan Veteran problem

Groups look fine now, pretty windy here so POI is moving around. But there is one large ragged hole where the pellets going 880-890 are landing and other holes scattered around when the velocity changes from this range. With 10-15 mph winds its grouping 1-1.25” at 50 yards.

    Yet another Taipan Veteran problem

@Yo @elh0102 @regarval I have thought about sending it in for warranty but A) I have tried emailing Taipan customer service a few weeks ago and *crickets*, and B) I am not even convinced that there is anything wrong with the gun, I just think the OEM reg is set much too high for the speed that...

    Yet another Taipan Veteran problem

UPDATE: Thanks for the suggestions guys. The gun is definitely the issue, not the chronograph. POI when reading 650 fps was very different than 880. After shooting 60 more shots thru it, it seems to have leveled off at my desired 885 fps with an extreme spread of 8 fps over the 60 shots...

    Yet another Taipan Veteran problem

@rangur1 300 shots after every adjustment? I probably have close to that through it now total. I guess I’ll keep shooting and holding my breath.

    Yet another Taipan Veteran problem

Long story short, I bought a Veteran Long .22 in May and have had nothing but issues with velocity inconsistency. As mentioned in a previous post, I had random large velocity fluctuations with the OEM regulator (30-40fps). After tinkering with the HST to no avail, I broke down and bought a Huma...

    Huma regulator break in period?

Thank you for that explanation! After some research I found Huma documentation that states that a 10 bar change in reg pressure equates to roughly 10 m/s = 33 fps change in velocity. So that aligns with your findings. My next move is to take the gun down and set reg to 100 bar and see if...

    Huma regulator break in period?

@Motorhead @francisfaustino Thanks for the responses! In the interest of not having to take the gun apart too many times, could you give a rough suggestion of what I would need to set the regulator pressure to if I want to shoot 18.1s ~880-900fps? For reference the reg is currently set at 115...

    Huma regulator break in period?

I recently installed a Huma regulator in my Taipan Veteran Long .22 because the OEM reg would occasionally give large extreme spreads (~30 fps). I set the Huma reg to 115 bar and installed it. Gun appears to work fine, holds air like before, etc. With the HST ~maxed, the gun will push 18.1 JSBs...
