    [SPF] FX Impact MkII

Purchased new May 2020. .22, 700 mm, Power Plenum. Had a nice tune for a particular slug, but the slugs changed, and in the meantime I've retired and will be moving to a place where I won't have the acreage to work up a new tune for a new slug. Three liners: factory pellet, Slug A, and...

    Tuning Reassembling an Impact straight

Today I had to replace my valve rod assembly after the issue rod developed a bent tip when my C1 got loose. I noticed that it seems possible to misalign the front and rear halves of the gun, that is forward of the plenum vs plenum rearward, and that it's the top plate which lines the two halves...

WHY won't my beloved H&N .218 23 gr slugs shoot anymore?

For months I could do no wrong, average 0.4" 5 shots at 70 yd, averaging .95 MOA at 101 yds. Then the slugs changed. Most noticeable was that they no longer had the slimy mottled lube that so many found off-putting. Newer batches seem to have either a dark gray glossy coat or a lighter gray...

Tuning The high reg "short burst of high pressure" tune

Can someone explain this process? I upped my reg from 95 to 125 or so, but I don't want 995 fps, which is my max at that set point with 23 gr H&N .218 slugs. Now do I reduce hammer preload using the screw to get 97% of max velocity, then close the valve adjuster til I get my target speed of...

    FX Impact barrel support

Lots of folks, me included, hate the idea of a barrel being supported by a single grub screw. Yet FX continues to make $2000 guns with that system, even as they develop innovations like the Maverick and M3. I'm no engineer, but I think the answer is that the grub screw doesn't 'support'...

    FINALLY! 100 yard accuracy

101 yards, actually, cause that's where my berm is. Once I got good 70 yard accuracy (cause that's where I most often see squirrels) I began months ago to try for good 100 yard shooting. I learned that technique is orders of magnitude more important at longer ranges. I mean I though it would...

    Aftermarket buttstocks for Impact

The LOP on my Impact is too short, so I'm looking at Kraford & Lypt vs Saber Tactical stocks. I want to be able to change LOP without tools, on the fly. Don't know about the usefulness of the monopds, but seems it would help. Any opinions about which is best?

    [SOLD] STEYR LP50 for sale

Bought new by an elderly member of our weekly 10 meter league late 2007/early 2008. I knew him well, and he was meticulous with his equipment, but arthritis kept him from using the pistol much. I don't think it's had more than four tins of pellets through it. Semiauto match pistol with 2...

    Tuning Hold sensitivity

After reading comments here about hold sensitivity of various rifles, I revisited Warren Page's excellent little book The Accurate Rifle. I'd studied it 30 years ago when I was building my first centerfire, a .30-'06 on an old 1903A3 action. That rifle needed a firm shoulder pressure to get good...

Tuning Fliers-at then end of my wits

Impact MkII, 700 mm, PP, .22. Shooting H&N 23 gr slugs, which were previously doing very well: 1/2" 5-shot groups at 70 yd, often better. For about a month I've been getting random fliers, with three shots touching and two an inch or more away, not always in the same spot. Scope? Swapped it...

    Tuning 1004 fps? Really??

Following the method of starting with the hammer preload screw backed out on my .22 700 mm PP Impact, and gradually increasing preload while changing nothing else, I found that my top speed was 1004. Sure enough, any more preload caused speed to drop, and I was far from max preload. Using 23 gr...

Tuning Using the Vetmx tuning approach

I had earlier posted my puzzlement that at max power wheel and max preload screw on my Impact, the velocity was actually a bit lower than at slightly lower preload settings. Glem.chally and Vetmx replied that this was because too much hammer causes the valve to rebound hard and fast, prematurely...

Tuning Peculiar observation tuning my Impact

Was fiddling with my tune and decided to try a slightly higher reg pressure of 100 vs my usual 95. MkII PP 700 mm .22. Did the usual thing of opening the valve knob past 4 lines, wheel on max, turn in the preload screw til the wheel won't move then back off a hair til it just moves, to find max...

    Two thousand H&N .218 23 grain slugs

Been sorting by weight. Thirteen weigh 23.0 gr, seven were over 23.4 (usually 23.6), and the remainder are 40% 23.2, 60% 23.4. Both these latter shoot well for me, and 23.2 may have an edge in lower ES over the chrono, but they group equally well. Pretty damn consistent slugs. More...

    Tuning Fiddling with the valve

I watched Bob's video in which he says to tune to a one-hole 30 yd group, then go for 100, and if not good at 100, adjust the valve, and if no better, the hammer or regulator etc. What struck me most about it was the idea of using the valve adjuster to find the best barrel harmonic in an Impact...

One tin of H&N 23 gr .218 slugs weighed

On my digital scale. Left, 23.0 middle 23.2 right 23.4. I've drone this many times, always with pretty much the same ratios. All weights shoot well for me, though 23.2 has the lowest extreme velocity spread.

Tuning I don't have wandering zero anymore....but I DO have wandering velocity

After establishing a good tune on my Impact MkII PP 700 mm .22, at 912 fps with ES 9-10, I found my velocity dribbling down to low 890s. Regulator reading unchanged at 95, valve adjuster and hammer preload screw unchanged (though my hammer screw DOES wander if I don't loctite it), pellet probe...

Tuning Impact loading block adjustment/probe adjustment

MKII, PP. I seem to recall a dimension you measure from the buttstock to the block which holds the pellet probe. What is that dimension, and from where to where? The flat face of the block holding the probe, or the cylindrical protrusion?

Tuning How to break your Impact

MkII, .22, 700 mm, Power Plenum. Generally shooting 23 grain H&N .218 slugs at 900-910 fps with regulator at 95-100 bar. I have a bad habit of opening the action and inserting a slug in the single-loader, then checking my reticle or level and forgetting to close the breech before firing. The...

    Impact 20 MOA rail

How to tell whether I have one? It's a MkII Power Plenum .22, 700mm barrel, purchased May 2020.
