    Splat

Picked this up on the range where @bearbar was having a time getting a certain setup zeroed. Hit the metal target frame.

Gonna ask this in complete ignorance

The lead itself should work fine I find that the purer the lead content the better. As for using pure lead 9mm bullets as slugs, the others have covered the matter well.

Trajectory effected by pellet weight and design?

I find that with changing pellets in springers the POI moves around a lot more than PCPs, and it makes sense considering how much less vibration happens in a PCP. Generally a heavy pellet hits lower but if the harmonics are significant it can override that.

You Get What You Pay For!

The Simmons I have is old school before China was making scopes for name brands. But the optical quality is only OK compared to better glass.

You Get What You Pay For!

I learned it pretty early on, when I started shooting springers and tried cheap Simmons scopes ve Leupolds, and a fine Air Arms vs a medium grade RWS and a junk Crosman big box thing. It’s continued at a different price point as I now have a Thomas and S&B scope at my top end and in some ways...

.177 pellet with least variance in manufacturing

Hmm. I usually shoot the double shot into the dirt. Then make sure the barrel is clear before trying again.

Quality pellet prices (vs .22LR rimfire)

High quality .22LR ammo is $15/50ct. $.30/round. The same level of quality in pellets is a tiny fraction of that. Comparing .22LR ammo to premium slugs is getting more reasonable, but still I can get 1000 of any slug for better than match .22LR ammo pricing. David

.177 pellet with least variance in manufacturing

Simply the best right now are the premium match grade wadcutters. The JSB Premium are the most consistent diabolos you can buy right now. But I have found that finding the pellet your gun likes means more than the quality of the pellet. It's only after you've found the pellet it most likes...

Pentax PF-65 ED II Spotting Scope

I've spotted 6mm (6BRA) holes at 500 yards in good conditions. Using high-vis targets helps a lot though and I've spotted the same holes at 600y. I've not used it for airgunning. My really accurate guns have huge scopes, lol.

Pentax PF-65 ED II Spotting Scope

I have one and it’s great. The standard eyepieces and quality glass are standout features to me.

With rubber mulch most of the sound comes from the cardboard, paper, or tape between the target and mulch. Experiment there

PCP Rifle FS: Thomas BR with BR stock and Left-hand GRS stock, spare barrel

A couple years ago I bought this rifle from a friend and used it for informal BR shooting and some Field target competition. I'm only selling it because I got a newer Thomas FT with a more compact stock that suits Open Class FT better and I can't keep both. This is one of the early ones -...

❓ Acoustics Question: Projectile Flight Noise 𐃘 How to keep it down?

Pellets are stabilized by air moving over the skirt but those particular aerodynamic forces are not technically drag. Drag has a specific definition in aerodynamics that drag is the part that does not stabilize.

    Crazy price of used guns

I use a sliding scale. Got a like new model unmodified that is no longer the latest generation? 50% of list seems reasonable. Is it the latest generation NIB and not in stock at the retailers right now - maybe 80-100% of list. Got a high end gun that involves long lead times or is NLA? 80%...

    BR Questions

I shoot informal benchrest using a one or two piece rest and my rifle with a 3” flat forensic adapter. I shoot using free recoil technique. It’s very accurate and less for the shooter to screw up but it’s a little slower. Get some wind flags you’ll be pissin into the wind without them. If...
