Western Airguns Western Mordax Venom, first impressions, and eventual ongoing review.

I was wrong, his wife approved, good job wifey, and apologies! It turned out the acquaintance and his family went on vacation so he didn't want to order his Mordax, this one a Long Strike version, because he'd been gone more than a week, and something I didn't know about. I guess he turns his...

The best All around Air rifle scope

My best all arounder used to be a Athlon Helos DMR G2 2-12X42 because it's so versatile. Next I got a Athlon Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50 which is a higher quality scope and is better if one needs 15x. Then recently I had been experimenting a lot with my March DFP 1-10×28. DFP stands for Dual Focal...

    Western Airguns Magazine/slugs/pellets oh my

Way too much hassle. Either sell them, use them in another gun, or shelf them until you buy a size die. Easier to just order other various slugs until you find what works the most optimally. I'd call AOA and ask what slugs they suggest using.

    Why kill crows?

I had a pet Raven too, though it was half grown when I rescued it so he never did get totally tame. He wouldn't tolerate being touched but I could feed it chunky dog food from arms length. We named him Crozy, lol, and he lived with my ducks and chickens until he could fly. It was hilarious...

Pistol Scope Choices for FT or EFT

Of course or I wouldn't use it. With a 25y zero at 35y my 10.3gr pellet only drops .3 mil so I aim towards the top of the KZ if it ranges 34y to 35y, and maybe account for some wind. PBR is from 20y to 31y if including .1 mil more either up or down. The pellet will still land centered enough...

    Athlon Ares BTR G3

The Ares ETR is a 3-18x50, and yes 34mm tube, but not super heavy. The Ares BTR G3 is a 2.5-15x50 has a 30mm tube. Too me the turrets are superior in the G3 BTR if comparing both. IQ goes to the ETR. Cavedweller told me he thought the reticle was thicker in his newer Ares ETR 3-18 than in his...

    Why kill crows?

My wife and I are discovering how invasive and destructive crows are to our chickens eggs which they just started laying. It was mainly the poultry seed block that attracted the crows and ravens but when that got ate up most of them left. I've seen of few of the ravens take off with an egg but...

Pistol Scope Choices for FT or EFT

Rudy, I'm still advocating for the Athlon Helos G2 2-12x42 for HPFT because if I can range well with it having eye problems then anyone else should be able to do better than I can with good eyes. In comps I've competed in there are more practiced, more steady, and also people who I consider...

    Athlon Ares BTR G3

It's a 2.5-15x50 and that's a great deal for a fantastic scope, a scope that seems like a scope costing 3 times what it is at regular price. Having one myself that's my IMHO. There's literally nothing about it I've found fault with.

Western Airguns Western Mordax Venom, first impressions, and eventual ongoing review.

Can't take the $ with you to the other side so might as well. I'm thinking of getting a 12 fpe Raw pistol but putting a AR rear stock and 700cc bottle on it to plink a whole tin of pellets without needing to fill again until all 500 are gone. Or getting another Venom. I haven't heard anything...

    C'mon FedEx - Bring me some ST7!!!

None better than ST7 steel targets, love mine, and they can withstand rimfire as well. I'd like to commission ST7 to make a plate rack like these except a pull cord to reset type system, but much tougher than my 30 year old, very thin gauge, mild steel racks. These are super fun when competing...

Western Airguns Western Mordax Venom, first impressions, and eventual ongoing review.

Our airgun friend Kent had his annual fish fry this Wednesday and it's also an airgun plinkfest afterwards. We had 1/5th scale silhouettes at 40, 50, 60 and 70 yards which includes per rack, 1 ram, 1 turkey, 1 pig, and 2 chickens, and it was quite windy. My friend Bobby tried the Venom and he...

Western Airguns Western Mordax Venom, first impressions, and eventual ongoing review.

I like this March DFP 1.5-15×42! The IQ is better than I expected it to be and it's much nicer on 15x than my March DFP 1-10×28 is on 10x. There is a little blurr near the edges of the FOV which I knew would be the case based on video reviews I've seen before. The more I bring the magnification...

What .25 slug for no choke 1:22 twist?

The NSA 29gr shot well out of some of the slower twist barrels I've seen here on AN but the BC is pretty low at .075 in my Uragan King, however way better than pellets at longer distances.

Athlon Helos BTR Gen 2 6-24 vs ?

Another thing I like about it that needs mentioning is the line thickness of the APRS6 MIL reticle is .05 which means it's easier to see on lower magnification but not intrusive on higher magnification. Many other reticles are from .025 to .04 mil thick which I personally don't like if ever...

Athlon Helos BTR Gen 2 6-24 vs ?

It's a great scope if a bit heavy. Still good IQ but down a hair from the MT line. It's good enough that I left it on my $4000-ish 22rf instead of putting a tier 1 scope on that rifle.

Western Airguns Western Mordax Venom, first impressions, and eventual ongoing review.

I shot the plate racks a bunch today. What great fun! I need to get the wife to time me but I think I'm around 2.25 seconds to clean a rack from high ready. 3 tins through the Venom now and no problems have arisen. I also gave my Steyr ProX a go on the racks. At 28 fpe it's a bit too strong...

Western Airguns Western Mordax Venom, first impressions, and eventual ongoing review.

Something kind of funny happened this morning before I set these plate racks up for the photos and that was an old shooting acquaintance stopped by when I called to him on his walk out in the Forest Service behind my property. I hadn't talked to him in years and found out he's 83 years old now...

Western Airguns Western Mordax Venom, first impressions, and eventual ongoing review.

These are those plate racks I was referring to. They are designed for airguns but a bit thinner gauge steel for the 22 fpe and 28 fpe semi's I have. Oh well I'll need to do some banging on them with the hammer eventually. The circles are 4". These are intended for man against man comps. At the...

Did anyone order themselves something neat for Labor Day?

Got a March DFP 1.5-15x42 arriving soon but they wouldn't give me a LD discount on the price however this dealer had the best price I found for "in stock". Another dealer was a little cheaper but out of stock and + $100 for expedited shipping from Japan, with a 4-5 week wait, or it would have...
