I agree that if you start to look a cost only you may never get into this sport. As for me it fit a need in my hunting. So like with everything else I believe once you start to enjoy it you want to get better that mean better more expensive stuff and then usually cost generally goes out...

Great information. Just for the record, I didn't mean the air rifle would be you only gun. Of course I would expect everyone to have a selection of firearms in a SHTF case. Another question, since I am a newbie, what is the life expectancy of a average PCP with proper maintenance?

This question came up while with a mutual friend of a friend who is a bit of a pepper found out I was in to PCP Air rifles. Let just say he did not see the point of having an air rifle I from a pepper frame of mind. I gave him a few scenario where it would be advantage to have one for long term...

Also another consideration on the PCP side is the Gamo Urban I see the on sale for $199 another on the Break barrel side to look at is the Gamo Swarm about the same price multi shot on those cold trap line days.

If are not in a rush. The Hatsan Flash refurbished is $199.00 on Hatsan website combined with a cheap $40 hand pump. Deer hunting buddy of mine keeps one in his deer blind to dispatch ccoons, rabbits and squirrels at his feeder. His is in 25 cal.

It is an accurate hand pump friendly, small game hunter. I just wish the shot count was higher to get through 2 good mags at up to 40-50 yard range
