Cocked and locked PICS try cheer myself up

Sorry... You are correct. There was a significant influx of Protestant German immigrants to the area seeking relief from religious persecution between 1710 and 1745. Many brought with them the rifle building technology from their homeland that allowed for rifled barrels. Among them were a few of...

Cocked and locked PICS try cheer myself up

Just for the sake of historical accuracy, The so-called Kentucky long rifle was originally developed in Pennsylvania, Juniata and Lack counties primarily.

    Non lethal defense

I've ridden over some pretty dicey surfaces with pepper spray in a wrist holster and never had one crap out due to the vibration. Used the stuff ever since I lived up in Chico 30 something years ago and had a fair number of incidents requiring its use. The stuff is effective for both 4 and 2...

    RAW REPORT

I'm getting ES readings of 7 - 12 across 100 shot strings consistently with JSB Monster 13.4 gr pellets with an average velocity around 815. This is from the TM1000 I bought last May.

    Air Arms Galahad Mag indexing

If the Galahad uses the same mechanism as the S510 to advance the magazine, it may be a problem with the indexer post. The brass flat spring that engages the grooves around the perimeter of the magazine is prone to failure that prevents mag rotation. I have no experience with the Galahad, but I...

    RAW Air rifles

I'd suggest talking to Ken Hicks and SPAW. He's worked closely with the folks at RAW and knows their line up really well.

Come out and shoot in the weather! Who's afraid of a little wind? Concord, Ca

A little wind? I saw someone using a length of chain attached to a stick as a wind flag this morning. Good luck, guys. It'll be a challenge for sure.

    Good manners vs anonymity

Consequences. Real, immediate, palpable consequences. That is what is missing from our culture today. Robert Heinlein once said, "an armed society is a polite society". He was right. What seems to escape most people's attention is that the reverse is also true. Enabling bad behavior for whatever...

    Head bobbing method

Hmmm. I have an Aeon 10-40X56 that is a PIA because sharpest focus and zero parallax and definitely NOT the same. With that scope, if you eliminate parallax using whatever method, you will have a somewhat fuzzy image. I also have a Hawke Sidewinder that does not exhibit this behavior. I suspect...

    Head bobbing method

What scope are you using? I've had rifle scopes (side focus and AO) that would give perfect focus but still exhibit noticeable parallax in both axes. Very annoying.

Aeon Athlon Aztec Delta Hawke Leupold March MTC Optisan Sightron SWFA UTG Vortex

I just replaced an Aeon 10-40X56 with a Hawke Sidewinder 8-32X56 (thanks Vu), and it would be difficult to overstate the improvement. Guess I just got lucky, but this Hawke compares favorably with a Leupold 8.5-25X50 LTR I had back in my powder burning days, and that scope was near twice the...

    RAW REPORT

I've had nothing but Jewell triggers in all my center fire BR guns, and oyu are right. A properly set Jewell breaks like a glass rod with no creep at all. It'll spoil you for anything else. The triggers on my AA S510 and RAW TM1000 are good and very good respectively, but they're no Jewell.

Hynzie, The moderator works very well, indeed. Mouse fart quiet and no effect on chrono data or accuracy at all. I couldn't be happier. And it does look very cool. I'll try to get some pix this weekend.

New (to me) .177 RAW TM1000

Agreed! The first 2 letters of the model name means little. BTW, my particular TM is a recent build. It was done up in the BM stock as a custom order by it's original owner. I glommed onto it as quickly as I did because that configuration is perfect for my purposes AND it was for all intent new.

New (to me) .177 RAW TM1000

Congratulations!n That's a beautiful rifle!. I also recently acquired a TM1000 that is very accurate. It's set up in a BM stock since that's the discipline I'll be most active in. I'll probably never be competing against a BM 500 or a BM500 Mk2 locally, but given what I've seen so far from my...

    Pellet Gage users, ?

I use mostly JSB .22 18.1 gr in my AA S510 and their .177 13.4 pellets in my TM1000. They usually are fairly consistent in head size, so once I've gauged enough to know what the most common size is in any given tin, I start there and go up or down a size as needed for the outliers. This seem to...

    RAW REPORT

Most of my rides are relatively short jaunts of a Sunday morning with one of the local clubs. There's a bunch of us seniors (locally known as the 'old farts') that traditionally make an assault on Mt. Diablo on New Year's Day, and that's about as hard core as I get. Ah, but there was a time, a...

Wild fires to the North up around Redding and Mendocino, and as close as the Marsh fire over in Clayton, about 10 miles away. It's thick enough here that my eyes start to water after maybe 30 minutes outside. And it stinks. We're safe here (so far). No watches or warnings. Just really unpleasant...
