5 years after original post but just got my Stormrider 2. Came to the same conclusion on the screws and glad to see I’m on the right track. I think the short length of the screws especially for stage 2 was to prevent too light a trigger (and liability). Can’t be done with the screws provided...

Thanks. I did get the bolt and plan to shape the end on Fri when we may make it to 50 deg here in mn. Looks like a great rest - using an edgewood front bag from a sinclair top.
