Do You Shoot Airguns With Any Women?

That’s brilliant, mate — love the vibe of your backyard range. Sounds like a cracking group, and I can just picture the scene with that whoop of victory when one of the ladies snipes a target clean off. Proper fun, and honestly, that kind of joy is what shooting should be about. Had a laugh at...

Do You Shoot Airguns With Any Women?

That’s a beautiful thing to say — thank you. And I’m so sorry to hear what your daughter went through… that’s a heavy road for any parent. I hope she’s doing well now. And yeah, I like that thought — still with me at the range and out in the fields and woods. Always will be.

Do You Shoot Airguns With Any Women?

I used to go shooting and out hunting with my daughter quite a bit. Sadly, she’s no longer with us—we lost her in a car accident. She was a cracking shot, too. In general, I reckon women make pretty solid shooters. There aren’t loads of them about, but the ones I know can more than hold their...

    Slugs in Springer?

The HW97K has a fairly tight choke, so it’s not well-suited for slugs. On top of that, a springer’s already slow and jarring shot cycle tends to feel even harsher with heavier projectiles.

    Springer vs. PCP

That’s solid advice from @Orv — couldn’t agree more. Mastering a springer’s double recoil sets you up nicely for moving on to powder burners. Personally, I don’t think the artillery hold is a strict must; just avoid resting it on a hard surface like you would with a PB — a good bag does the...

Just what is that thing on the end of an HW97K barrel?

Understood — though to be fair, your original message did reference specific features like baffles and implied a distinction based on what you've seen or not seen, so I think it's reasonable that I responded to that framing. That said, I totally respect where you're coming from. “Muzzle weight”...

Vector Veyron 3-12 SFP true magnification?

As I mentioned earlier, I ran the test — “probably” just wasn’t quite cutting it — and sure enough, it’s true at 12×. 🙂

Just what is that thing on the end of an HW97K barrel?

Yes, the FX moderators are essentially just a can — part of the DonnyFL “LDC / mono-core” line, which relies on empty-core designs without traditional baffles. Ataman moderators are also empty, as is the Altaros moderator/brake combo — and that one actually performs really well, built for...

Just what is that thing on the end of an HW97K barrel?

If we’re being strict about definitions — if a moderator must have baffles to count, then by the same logic, a muzzle brake should always have vents or holes, shouldn’t it? If a device reduces sound by allowing compressed air to expand and dissipate more gradually — whether through chambers...

Vector Veyron 3-12 SFP true magnification?

Fair enough for some, but it’s not always the case. I went to the small effort of testing it myself, and turns out the Veyron 3–12 is true at 12x, its highest magnification.

Just what is that thing on the end of an HW97K barrel?

Fair point about the baffles, but I’m not sure a moderator has to tick that particular box to count. Expansion chamber designs like the one on the HW97 can be pretty effective, especially on airguns. FX moderators are probably the best-known example — basically just empty cans that reduce...

Vector Veyron 3-12 SFP true magnification?

Yes, thank you — I do find it odd that it’s not mentioned anywhere.

Just what is that thing on the end of an HW97K barrel?

Mine’s empty too. I’d probably still call it a moderator of some sort, since it’s noticeably louder (and less accurate, in my case) without the end cap on. I’ve heard some refer to it as a muzzle weight, but I’m a bit sceptical about that, to be honest.

Vector Veyron 3-12 SFP true magnification?

Would anyone happen to know at which magnification the Vector Veyron 3-12x44 SFP with the MPR-V10 reticle is true? Is it calibrated for 12x, or perhaps something else—like the Hawke Airmax Compact 3-12, which I believe is true at 10x? Many thanks in advance!

I get where you’re coming from, especially with coyotes causing havoc with livestock. It must be distressing to see that up close—it certainly colours your opinion. However, I’d like to point out that you don’t know what I’ve witnessed or dealt with. Assuming I’ve just been sitting idly by while...
