Could of just put a piece of tape over it on the outside, and that way it would of blown off if needed as well. Early plugs are solid, but those are also vented differently than the newer compressors.

With only 3hrs, you probably have a leak. You won't need all those seals for rebuild. If you did it would be catastrophic damage to have occurred. If it doesn't leak down, is may be over greased.

Things to do/look for As said above...check valve Safety valve, make sure no air is leaking there Test with the deadhead and see if the air bleeds down when you shut it off...if it does, you'll need some soapy water to find the leak. Common spot is under the pressure gauge. If it doesn't leak...

Omega cylinder repair... this is very similar to the cs4. Pulling the cylinder off and replacing it is very easy. Rebuilding one, that's a lot more involved.
