    Tuning Crowning your barrel

The only time I've done such a thing was when there was a problem. Probably every other cheapo airgun that I've had suffered a burr or some such imperfection in the crown area. All were resolved by the brass domed screw head trick, just twirling it between my fingers while rotating the barrel...

New coyote laws and regs coming to CA? Not pet or child friendly!

Makes me think of NWH's "F--- the Security Guards", there are a few postings on Youtube.

    Home made projectiles?

Oh, right, I typically shoot into a box filled with rags and shake out the pellets once in a while. I started with commercial pellets, then began to melt those down and re-cast. So my raw material is recycled old lead-free pellets. I'm probably about 50/50 now, new/recycled, shooting new...

    Home made projectiles?

The commercial tin based "green" pellets are readily available online (Pyramyd, Trenier, AoA, Midway). They're not available at my local Big5 Sporting Goods, even in this eco-green-no-hazmat Bay Area. In .22 they run from 10 to 13 grains, and in .25 from 16.5 to 20 grain, roughly only 2/3 the...

New coyote laws and regs coming to CA? Not pet or child friendly!

This story? https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2012/02/03/bow-hunter-pleads-guilty-to-killing-mountain-lion/ In that case it reads $600 and likely getting the bow back, and a lesson learned about sticking to one story (and one might suggest to draft that story with one's lawyer first).

New coyote laws and regs coming to CA? Not pet or child friendly!

Yep, we got 'yotes in the Bay Area too. They eat the cat food (both meanings), left outside. I lost a cat last winter to them, a house cat raised friendly with dogs that didn't stand a chance. The feral cats around here grow up mean. A neighbor recently left flyers around asking to help...

    Home made projectiles?

That is a good question. Most commercial non-lead pellets are made of tin, Sb. I haven't heard of any credible evidence that shooting tin pellets erodes steel barrels, at least not within something comparable to lead, say 100,000 shots. Have you seen or credibly heard of this?

Shooting with thumb not around grip

Depending on the gun, my thumb wrapped around the grip can interfere with the recoil, usually rotating the gun a little. To keep that from happening, I may rest my thumb on top of the grip, in line with the recoil. I tend to do that with very lightly-held breakbarrels, and less so with guns...

    Home made projectiles?

I cast from tin or pewter metal, using re-melted old "lead free" pellets that I collect in a rag-box pellet trap, but old pewterware would also work. Lead swages easily, but I'm not sure tin will work in pellet swagers designed for lead; classically tin can be hammered into shape but one would...

    Future of NOE bullet moulds?

I just got an email that some NOE pellet molds are back in stock: 250-27-RF-CC3 a classic diabolo in the lighter weight range I cast in tin metal and they give me some more options between the Predator GTO 16.5gr. and Baracuda Green 20gr. They shoot well from my Hatsan Mod95. 300-68-FN-BI3 a...

    Best of Non-Lead Pellets?

...leaked? If the fuel had the average lead amount of 0.4 grams per liter, and say the fuel tank was 500 gallons, then a full tank would have 500gal * 3.8gal/liter * 0.4 g/liter = 760 grams. 2.2 pounds per 1000 grams gives us around 1.7 pounds of lead. On the high end, the half-lethal-dose...

    Airforce Help disassembling Airforce Condor

What do y'all use to lube AF guns? I've tried lubing the trigger/safety area with Triflow and it makes for a much nicer trigger, but I understand such oily lubes aren't recommended. Graphite did nothing for the trigger, but made the hammer and breech slide easier. A coat of car wax on the...

Airforce Condor valve vs custom high flow valve

49 grains at 998 fps is 108 ft#. I don't hear of much more than that out of a Condor .25. As I understand it, the heavy hammer and spring is to open the valve against that 4100 psi. At that pressure, will a higher flow valve do much more? Maybe test more! How heavy are the .257...

Need lightweight, cheap 22 PCP Rifle for occasional rabbit elimination

I have one of these and while it is accurate and gets a lot of shots on those three CO2 cartridges (I get 30 per loaded cartridge in .22), it leaks down gas overnight or within a week. The design is that the whole CO2 cartridge tube fills with gas and that o-ring on the tube cap at the end just...

    Best of Non-Lead Pellets?

Ah, yes, fading fast fond childhood memories of holding lead pellets between my lips while sniping sparrows from the Purple Martin house... Maybe look for unleaded on sale and build the database on what their guns shoot best from that? There is that lesson of "guns shoot different projectiles...

    Best of Non-Lead Pellets?

I might have shot just about every non-lead pellet out there. In my experience, it depends on the gun. Some like one kind of pellet, others prefer a different pellet, just like with lead pellets. Are you disappointed with the accuracy of your current non-lead pellets?
