I just don't get the hype of the OP. I'm not sure how many stupid-simple Caldwell chronys I sold over the 3 decades I worked weekends at a largish gun shop but it has to be 1000 or more. The Caldwell Rep came into our shop with the new at the time CBC 48HZ processor along with a broken wire...
Good eye! Yes, it's an FX Maverick cocking lever/arm/screw (all sold separately) and they run about $50 from UA. NO, it's nowhere close to a drop in. It takes me a little over an hour to cut, shape, fit and then profile it to fit
Nice job L.L!! I have a Whistlepig sneaking in to nibble the wife's new plantings. Unlike his cousins, he's not visiting at 7PM so I can't assist him with funeral arrangements...
C88Machining is AWESOME! BUT I dont like the front end cap adapter. I have been sent three barrels with them completely jammed on the barrel after the moderator has been removed. It took some work to remove them and I still had to machine the front of the barrel anyway! I urge people to...
The subscriber design is so good! With the OEM red insert, 5 shots, 87, 86, 87, 88, 86 decibels, 87dB average. With Subscribers design, I shot this jaw-dropping string of 5 samples, 66, 67, 64, 68, 69dB.
On a protected barrel end, no bevel is needed if it remains burr free. The bevel is solely a function of crown protection though there is much argument over this. A bevel can also "cheat" a poorly done crown and direct gasses to buffer the projectile. Have your buddy do a straight cut then...
On its face, it sounds like an easy experiment: point the camera at the crown and shoot/press record! Reality is that little if any useful data is collected due to focal blockage, smoke, fire and unburnt powder obscuring the whole crown. One would need at minimum 8 high speed cameras watching...
MUCH cheaper to buy them now. I used to make my own for 100y targets from bright paper inside a hot lamination pouch then using a plexiglass mask, spray painted it black, the plexiglass mask was just three rings and the bull. They worked fine but the self adhesive 3" circles are my fav to buy now.
