Do .177 Pellets Ricochet Off Metal Targets

For those interested in a bit of a more scientific explanation I found the video below. It makes some really interesting points and I think is worth the 15 minutes or so to watch. May be a bit boring as it includes a set of equations, but the conclusions are interesting. Cheers, Greg

Do .177 Pellets Ricochet Off Metal Targets

I appreciate all the input from everyone, and will accept some of the tongue lashing, but please keep the question in perspective. I specifically said I was shooting .177 pellets for Field Target. That means under 20 fpe. I specifically said that I was shooting spinners and knock-down or...

Do .177 Pellets Ricochet Off Metal Targets

Thank you everyone for your input. It seems that I can conclude that it is not physically impossible for a ricochet to have hit his house - or at least part of a pellet spinning off from a weird hit on the twisted part of a spinner (or something like that). With that I am having no problem...

    30-Yard Challenge

Great Shooting! Can you give some further info on the rifle, pellet velocity, scope, and magnification. Ed puts all that stuff in his spreadsheet and it is very interesting to see the spread of equipment and tunes that work for folks. Cheers, Greg

Do .177 Pellets Ricochet Off Metal Targets

I have a backyard range that I use to practice Field Target. I have a bunch of steel targets, some of the resetting kind as well as a couple of knock down/sting reset and a half-dozen spinners on the sides of trees. My next-door neighbors are great and probably the nicest I have ever had...

Really nice card! Keep going as you are on a positive trend. Indians or arrows? We always seem to be asking ourselves that question. Cheers, Greg

    30-Yard Challenge

Hi Guys, I had to send my new Falcon X505 ft scope back to Falcon Optics. I was having trouble with the focus ring. They stepped right up and are sending me a new scope (thanks Nick). But that meant the old Helix went back on the NW Crown. Put it on this morning and reset the adjustable...

    30-Yard Challenge

Tom, You can get them from any supplier, just look for the 13.4 gr without the "Redesigned" label. I actually like the FX 13.4 gr as they are the old design and a bit cheaper. The shape is obvious when you see them side by side. (Phot below- a bit blurry but Redesigned on left "Trash...

    30-Yard Challenge

Rick, You might want to give the older JSB 13.4's a look. I found them to shoot more consistently out of the FX liners than the Redesigns. I have a friend who just received his Thomas Air .177 carbine, and he was told by the builder to ONLY shoot the old "trash can" 13.4 JSB's. Cheers, Greg

    30-Yard Challenge

Hi Guys! Spent a bunch of time today tuning the King .25 600mm with the 33.94gr pellets. I am getting close to a good tune at 50yds. Will now have to jump to 70 yds and see how it does. About 7PM I was putting stuff away in my backyard range when it dawned on me the wind had absolutely...

Nice shooting Tom! II think when you miss by that little it could be so many things that it is almost random. Looks like the HM100x is a winner with those shallows. Cheers, Greg

Cavedweller, I like the Alpha Wolf picture! Does that scope rail have a built in MOA? There is a reason I ask. Where do most folks measure scope height? I ask that question for a reason. In playing around with various ballistics programs and trying to understand how they calculate...

FX FX Wildcat MK1 and .177 JSB Redesigned Monsters?

Hi, I did a bunch of testing of the 13.4 JSB pellets in my Crown MkII. It has a 500mm Superior pellet liner. I found the old type of 13.4 Monsters (the ones that look like trash cans) shot better out of that barrel than the redesigned ones. I am shooting them at 820fps for Field Target. I...

    30-Yard Challenge

Tom, I signed up to go to the Pyramid Air Cup for Field Target. When I was signing up I decided that if I was going to drive 7 hours and stay 3 days I should go ahead and join all the competitions. So I also signed up for the 100yd benchrest and the Speed Silhouettes (aka Gunslinger). I...

    30-Yard Challenge

Hi Guys, So it has been a while since I shot the Nordic Wolf Crown and today seemed like a good day. After talking to Ed about his experiences at NAC I decided to turn my King into a .25 600mm pellet shooter for doing 100yd benchrest. That meant I put the .22 500mm barrel back in the NW...

Ok, let me take a stab at it. Using my NW Crown as an example. With the stock hammer spring, the Huma 13-gram (4mm head) hammer weight, PW at 17, reg at 90 bar and the internal hammer spring (IHS) adjuster sticking out 4 mm the Potential Energy available for striking the valve pin is 490Nmm...

Tommy, What do you want to know about the Crown MkII :giggle: ? Ed has one that shoots great and I have a .177 and a .22 that also do. Tom Carlson's shooting with his Crown on this thread motivated me to purchase my first Crown. I love to talk about that rifle. PM me if you can stand me...

    30-Yard Challenge

Hi Guys! It has been a while since I shot a card with my HFT rig, so I thought I would see how it is doing. I have done really well in HFT so far this season (better than 90% hit rate😊, except for offhand where last time out I did 25% of those😒). Anyway shot two cards and the better one is...
