Getting out of valve lock ?

It doesn't solve valve lol but if you can open up the air flow path you can gain fps without increasing the regulator. I get maybe 10 fps just from making the barrel port longer than it is wide. Oval. If the valve opening and passage from the valve to the barrel are 75% of bore diameter...

    WHAT CAN I EXPECT??

Looks like the HW97 is under 15 fpe in 177. I used a Prod initially for the first 4 squirrels I shot with an airgun and lost 2. It was about the same fpe in 22. I increased the fpe to about 18 and have had considerably better experience since. The only one I've lost of the next 14 flipped...

    12 gauge shotshells loading question

I don't know if it would fit but have you thought about using a whole spent shotgun shell? The shell can be crimped over the wad to hold it in place. You will probably need to drill out the primer area to give the air a good chance to enter and use a filler of some sort to fill the area the...

Will dry air dry out occassional moisture intrusion

I agree with the other answers but will word it my way. How quickly the moisture will be removed is a function of how dry the air is you add. If the dessicant you use just barely gets it dry enough to not condense any water when the air cools, it will take a really long time to remove water in...

    Yong Heng after piston replacement

Well the after lunch test was a success so I am considering it fixed. I'll have to do some shooting and get the bottle down to the low 3000s like I normally do before refilling but I pumped the bottle from 3800 to 4400 psi with temperatures never over about 63 C but I had to put in four frozen...

How I determined scope height. Bad idea ??

To get a decent estimate I use my digital calipers to measure the barrel OD, Objective lens OD and the distance between the Objective lens and the barrel using blocks of various thicknesses. That gets me close. But then I shoot at different distances, like the OP, and that is my final "data"...

    One shot, one kill

All my PCPs work well for this but I do not normally use my Avenger for pesting only because it is so long. But it has a couple squirrels to it's credit. Velocity changes some with temperature, however, so I usually check the POI within a month or so of using them for pesting/hunting. For...

    Yong Heng after piston replacement

Thanks for all the electrical engineering but I am an engineer. I understand electricity. But additional 20 amp outlets do not install themselves. I will probably put one in but not today. I think it is pulling more amps now because the piston rings are new and a little harder to move. The...

AirMaks Arms Caiman X .22 cal how to quiet This thing

The Caiman built in moderator is modular but I've never seen extra sections for it. They screw together so if you could get Utah Air or somebody to order you one that should work without lengthening the gun much. I have a Caiman X in 22 and it's favorite pellet is the H&N Baracuda 18 grain. I...

    lapses of judgment

Target Forge used to sell a swinging target for golf balls. I still have one on my "know your limits" target stand but rarely shoot it for the reasons already highlighted. I think I had fewer issues shooting it with my 177 than I did with bigger guns. There are also lots of 177 pellets buried...

    Yong Heng after piston replacement

I will definitely check the breather plug and also the other things mentioned particularly leak check. I had the check valves out and they look fine and the reed valve is clean. I put new O-rings in the top end. I was surprised that it repeatedly tripped breakers but it may be more surprising...

    Yong Heng after piston replacement

My Yong Heng started taking 45 minutes to refill my 45 minute Scott air pack from 3000 psi to around 300 bar. It really struggled as it got up around 4000 so I did not always take it to 300 bar. It used to do this in 20 minutes. So I ordered a piston/rod assembly from Amazon and installed it...

Recommendations for Battery Powered Air Compressor

I made my own battery supply for my GX CS2. I wrote a thread about it earlier this year. I have a lot of Milwaukee 18V batteries so that is what I used. All you need is a 18V-12V step down converter and a battery dock. I got both in a set from Amazon for about $20. I don't think Milwaukee...

    New blood here

Plan to shoot a shot string from the full maximum fill pressure to as low as you find the velocity useful. I like to shoot targets while I do this so I am gaining some accuracy information at the same time. You will learn from the shot curve the maximum velocity you can get and the pressure...

Water snake caught threatening baby bluebirds

I sealed up a hole in my crawl space wall and after that I had more problems with mice than I had before. I don't kill all the snakes I see, just the ones that are threatening a preferred animal. I will also kill each poisonous snake I can but so far I haven't seen one of those in the wild.

Filtering the Input vs. the Output of the Compressor!

I have no experience but my guess is the effectiveness would be a function of the design of the pre filter. With a big enough pre filter with good dessicant I see no reason it would not help. But I doubt it can eliminate the need to filter the compressed air too. Filtering the inlet seems...

    New blood here

Welcome. As you probably know, you will need more "stuff". A source of high pressure air (a hand pump, compressor, and/or tank (with a way to fill it), a Scope and mounts, targets, pellets and a chronograph. Many skip the chronograph initially but I think it is vital. You will want to...

    A good farm gun ?

Birds you could use a 177 but foxes and coyotes are at least a 25 caliber. For a long gun I would look hard at the Stoeger Ranger and Scout and for a bullpup a Stoeger Bullshark. Not real powerful but should get close to 50 fpe with 34 grain pellets. If budget permits an Umarex Zellos in 25...

    30-Yard Challenge

I've had that happen too. With my P35-25 it is less of an issue. That gun will give me another dozen shots off reg that are no more than 20 fps lower. But that is unusual. I think it was my P35-22 last time it happened and I went from 10s to 8s due to the elevation impact of the lower velocity.

    30-Yard Challenge

I'd be quite happy with a 190 in 18 mph wind. My better scores are usually 6 mph wind or less.
