    Other Plastic pallet theory

I've tried coating and heat curing pellets (HiTek coating). No carbon build-up in barrel, but terrible accuracy/precision likely due to inconsistent coating of pellets, despite putting very thin coatings for each of 3 to 4 coats.

...with deformation. 400 degrees is well below the melting point of lead. It will lower the bhn of some alloys temporarily, but the hardness will return as they season. If I am powder coating an alloy and I want maximum hardness, I water quench them as soon as I take them out of the powder coat...

    Wax and gun bores

I shoot >20K rounds per year in local pistol comps and cast my own boolits so I get what you are saying. I moved away from wax lube years ago and now only use powder coat. Its a LOT cleaner and nearly smoke free.

...new pile of stuff that's soon will be dropped off at good will. That reminds me have a toaster oven I bought at good will for cooking powder coating on cast lead bullets. That's another interesting semi new development to keep from leading barrels. Likly way too inconsistent for pellets. If...

Best big bore slug lube for hunting

@Llama I think powder coating is an option worth exploring. I don’t have comparative experience. When my barrels are leaded to the point where accuracy is affected I clean them. But I’m not shooting my .45. I like my .357s. They don’t lead up too quickly. I don’t lube my projectiles, but a...

What springer did you shoot today?

Been shooting the Crosman Summit 4.5mm every day for a fortnight, and can't get enough. Was a total lemon out of the box though (not unexpected, but all pellets grouped close to 3" !) but after sorting out the barrel (crown, leade in and bore polish), making up a set of guides (and balancing...

Powder coat is most commonly polyester resin. Not sure how it will wear out a steel barrel in my lifetime.

Best big bore slug lube for hunting

@Llama I’ll pass on advice I was given. Powder coat. https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/powder-coating.1283591/ @RM.510bigbore and @karl_h have given me some good advice here. There are a few threads around the forums where the advantages of doing so are discussed. Maybe not quite the...

It smokes and smells awful but I just hit the pot with a shred of bees wax, stir and skim, just like its normal lead.

Hunters Supply Powder Coated Cast Lead Bullets

I have no experience with powder coated slugs but have shot there slugs. I found I needed to size them to get consistency on point of impact . They were all over the place as far as diameter.

Air Arms Conditioning new Air Arms walnut stock?

On the few stocks I have stripped and refinished the stain was in the sealing coat. It darkens the wood but hides a lot of color and detail. It's not the surface appearance that is the problem....you can always shine that up or buff it down. It's the muddy layer of color over the wood and under...

...slugs were too small in diameter soo I powder coated them with industrial silver got them up in size....The slugs aren't shooting that bad either...super slow wrong diameter super thick ugly powder coat. The powder coating did make enough diameter difference to use.....I learn things every day..

does powder coating slow big bore ammo down

I don't know about airgun slugs. but have in the distant past gotten some bullets for my centerfire rifle and they were a few thousands larger than normal. I don't know how it was applied, wet and then dry or tumbled and baked, but it was rather strong. I have coated some for myself by...
