the 97 and 77 are the same action i was told . i have both but they have different tunes and the 77 is a long , the 97 a K . Not much help . personally i like the 77 long best .

2 more Diana 23 shots a early 1960's rifle no dovetail no way to mount Diopters either , also in the photo the image does not fill the optic like it does in my eye (matter of holding the camera still ).

Expect the guys at this meet to offer (some insistently) to use their gun and try it out , please do this , i didn't and regret it .

I would try shooting a comp with what you have now . Use what scope you have on it and is comfortable for you , Just use hold over /under . DO not worry about the score . Do not be upset when you miss . Stop over after work ? most matches are in the AM to early afternoon .

a few quick shots this AM during coffee . Diana 23 with a long eye relief (18 to 25 inch) pistol scope mounted on the barrel , my eye see's a little "TV screen" image 18 inches away .
