    Taipan Veteran Gen 2 Question

As I recall, the lever that operates the anti-double load mechanism is actuated directly off the cocking arm. With the linkages required to do that with the forward cocking lever, it is probably a design nightmare and not considered worth the time and money to attempt. I'm sure that is...

Taipan Taipan Vet 2 Tactical with slow leak

You can use most any fluid to find the leak. I like to use some type of oil if I can get it to the site I want to check. Since it has no natural bubbles, a leak will show up clearly. Balloon over the muzzle will indicate a leak from the valve, but I doubt if that is your problem. Since it's...

FX Anyone have a tune for .22 JSB MRD in a Panthera with 500mm barrel?

Greg, I can't say that I understand the aerodynamics behind your description, but I certainly don't have the experience to doubt it. As I mentioned, I was drawing from my experience in load development and barrel selection in cartridge rifles. That might be a faulty comparison, and I apologize...

HW100 or PRO SPORT? Need a quiet air riflle

I have an HW100K carbine in .177. It was sold as an FAC level 20 fpe rifle, but I tuned it down to around 11 fpe. It is extremely quiet, and I promise that your neighbors will not hear it. Shot count is 80+ at this power level, although I'm not sure that your rifle will have the same air...

FX Anyone have a tune for .22 JSB MRD in a Panthera with 500mm barrel?

Well, a faster twist is what I mentioned. When I was developing BR loads in CF competition, I found that a faster twist would stabilize a long bullet, or, a higher velocity with the slower twist. Maybe that experience doesn't translate, but it seems plausible.

FX Anyone have a tune for .22 JSB MRD in a Panthera with 500mm barrel?

I don't shoot the MRD, nor do I have a HP rifle, but from all I've heard and read, this sounds right. I don't know if it's available, but a faster twist might allow better accuracy at the lower velocity.

Other Is 15.89 jsb .22 pellet at 930-940 fps enough for Raccoon headshot

That combination is fine with a GOOD head shot. My only experience with raccoons and air rifles was years ago on a camping trip. Raccoons raided our food one night, and I shot one with a .22 air rifle. I think I killed it, but it got out in the woods. The next night we had a couple more. I...

    HW97 groups

I have an HW97 in .177 also. Mine has.a 12 fpe Vortek kit installed, and those groups are similar to mine under less than ideal conditions. It's a great yard rifle, and power is adequate for squirrels at 25 yards. They are great rifles.

    Advice on initial purchase.

I don't think it is realistic to set a $300 budget to get started in the PCP hobby, sorry. A good used spring piston rifle in .177 should work for you, but probably not for $300. Have fun shopping, bring money.

Tuning Taipan Veteran Trigger Adjustment Picture

Any trigger can be set so light to be unsafe. But I can honestly say that I've never had a single stage trigger accidentally discharge due to a bad adjustment. Still, I never trust a safety when moving around, as in a hunting situation. As you mentioned, the Veteran has a great anti-double load...

Umarex Windage adjustment day to day ?

I think the short answer is no. That amount of temp change should be insignificant. Is the rifle stored in a manner that would generate lateral pressure on the barrel? The POI changes that I've seen from temp change has generally been more vertical, from a velocity change. I believe that I would...

N/A What caliber is best for 50yds bench rest .

You can find answers by reviewing match results in the BR forum. My quick review seemed to indicate that .22 is most prominent in 50 yard pellet competition. I don't know about slugs, but maybe they compete separately and against RF.

    What is your effective range?

Maximum range for 80% confidence offhand? 0! I might not be the worst offhand shooter in existence, but I'd be competitive for it. In truth, I just don't take offhand shots when hunting. I'm either seated with a stick, or standing beside a tree. The kill zone on a squirrel is small, and I...

    Taipan Worth the trouble

I don't think that is indicative of any inherent problem with the CZ barrel. When you consider how different the ballistic features are between slugs and pellets, it is not surprising that many great pellet barrels do not handle slugs well.

    N/A Accuracy improvements

Assuming that you're using a quality rifle with proven pellets, then forget about equipment and focus on technique, reading conditions, and practice. Consistency is the key. As the race car mechanic said, the most important nut is the one behind the wheel.

Pest control - RAW HM1000x or FX Crown

For 50 yard shooting I would choose the RAW without reservation. It is simple, accurate, great trigger, rock-solid reliability. And at that range, pellets are very satisfactory. If you want to attempt 150 yard shooting, that's a different challenge altogether and you will likely need more power...

    N/A lapping a barrel

I believe it depends on the exact reference. On these forums, "lapping" is often used to refer to polishing with various polishing agents. You aren't likely to damage a barrel in that process. True lapping is done with a lead lap and various levels of lapping compounds. That is a tedious process...

RAW LRT (Full Review) Grey Laminate / Rapid Air Worx HM1000X LRT

No. There is a significant body of opinion among precision smiths (including Martin), that removing metal from the exterior of the bore will affect internal dimensions to the detriment of accuracy. I was discussing this with him several years ago, and he had recently threaded a muzzle at the...
