    Taipan Slugs in a .25 Vet 1 S

As far as I know, the Veteran 1 .25 from a few years ago had LW barrel with tight chokes. The more recent ones have unchoked CZ barrels. I'm not sure when they made the transition but guns from the last half of last year have the CZ barrels according to Taipan. The type of barrel you have might...

.25 caliber at 32 FPE not enough?

Thanks for the comments everyone. I will leave the gun as is for now. I have another Veteran, a Standard .25, that is tuned to 45 FPE. I'll start using it more as I gain confidence with the Short 32 FPE.

.25 caliber at 32 FPE not enough?

I'm quite certain that I hit one just under the ear probably level with the eye and the other one just behind the head. I'm attaching videos of both shots. Both times, when I turned off the video, I thought for sure that they were done for.

.25 caliber at 32 FPE not enough?

Yes, maybe but now I'm a bit gun shy to use the gun at that power tune on squirrels. Before this, I had the gun tuned to 25 FPE briefly and that was even worse.

.25 caliber at 32 FPE not enough?

I'm using JSB King 25.39gr at 755 FPS.

.25 caliber at 32 FPE not enough?

As I continue to explore lower power tune .25 caliber I constantly learn different aspects of it. I currently have my Taipan Veteran Short .25 tuned to 32 FPE. I've taken a number of squirrels with it; both headshots and a heart and lung shot. The last 2 though didn't go so well. The shots were...

Tuning Tuning regulator - can you have a reg set too low?

As was already mentioned, there are several zones where individual guns will find their harmony. I'm my case, I tend to focus on FPE (maybe over focus? 🤔) because my guns serve as suburban varmint rifles. I'm trying to balance the safety and power for taking pests as humanely as possible.

Tuning Tuning regulator - can you have a reg set too low?

My Long .22 was getting around 90 shots at that power with the 15.89gr. Hades... So the same as yours. That was at 95 bars regulator. I was only able to get 60 shots with the .22 Standard when I tuned it to 27 FPE at 88 bars. For all the tunes, the hammer spring tension was set to give around...

Tuning Tuning regulator - can you have a reg set too low?

Yes, I'm aware of this erratic behavior which is why I replaced the Belleville washers with the proper rating for the reg pressure I want to set. When I had the improper heavy washers, when I had the regulator that low, whenever I degassed the rifle from the bleed valve up front, I also had to...

Taipan Not sure what Taipan this is…look off.

That's a Ukraine made Taipan Veteran that had the stock changed to the newer laminate stock.

Tuning Tuning regulator - can you have a reg set too low?

I have the Standard Veteran .25 that I have tuned shooting 45 FPE. I figure I'd tune the Short for a lower power option for shorter range shots. Yes, the Short with the 65 bars regulator tune was good enough for 15 meters, but I don't want to be limited in distance like that because the gun/tune...

Tuning Tuning regulator - can you have a reg set too low?

I did some shooting tonight with the Taipan Veteran Short .25 at 33 meters. The tune at 95 bars reg pressure is definitely much better than before. JSB King 25.39gr. and breezy 8 mph wind. Please don't crucify me... I know these are not the best groups that you have ever seen but I couldn't even...

Tuning Tuning regulator - can you have a reg set too low?

As I gain more experience with this gun, I am finding this to be very true. Seems the hammer weight and springs (valve and hammer) really limit how low a tune this gun can take. This probably explains why Taipan has never made a sub 12 ft/lb version of this gun (as far as I know) even though...

Tuning Tuning regulator - can you have a reg set too low?

Yes, I get that, but I'm trying to understand how the variables relate to one another, because without understanding what variables really matter, I'm practically flying blind since most guns today are sold at maximum settings. Case in point, when I bought my Taipan Veteran Long .22 a few years...

Tuning Tuning regulator - can you have a reg set too low?

When tuning a gun with a regulator, is there a minimum reg pressure where the gun will start doing not so well? My experience is with the Taipan Veteran Short .25 caliber. When I bought it a few months ago, I tuned it to 25 FPE with the JSB King 25.39gr. pellets. The reg pressure ended up at 65...

    Other Low powered .25?

Ok, I couldn't take it any longer... I re-tuned the gun to 755 FPS with the JSB King 25.39gr. for 32 FPE. Although I like the low power, I just couldn't stand how difficult it was to shoot accurately. With it at 755 FPS, it now shoots similar to how my Standard is with the King Heavy at similar...

Tuning Taipan Compact .25 - lead free - sub 15 fpe

I believe .22 might be a better option for what you want to do. I just posted on one of my threads regarding my Short. At 670 FPS with the JSB King, I find it quite difficult to shoot at 30 meters. The gun is very sensitive to follow through. I don't know if it's because of the long lock time...

Tuning Taipan Compact .25 - lead free - sub 15 fpe

Sorry but I have not tried the lead free pellets. For anything under 20 yards though, there's a good chance they will be accurate enough at those distances.

    Other Low powered .25?

The more I shoot this rifle at this tune, the more I find that it is very sensitive to follow through. I usually do my target practice at 33 meters and at that distance, the rifle is definitely accurate but only if I really concentrate on my follow through. My Veteran Standard .25 tuned to 45...
