    How accurate is your chronograph?

Interesting. I guess if the purest accuracy is required there’s always Invar. And repeatability is far more interesting than absolute accuracy. Do you know then how they trip the chronograph to simulate 1000.0 fps?

    How accurate is your chronograph?

Nice data Do you have temperature compensation? I'm sure the distance between sensors contracts as the housing gets cold. Also what do they do to create 1000.00 fps projectile? (Is it attached to a rotating wheel or something?) David

    Compressor damaging internals

If Rudy and I were talking to the same source on this topic, the theory is the compressor ‘pa-PAH pa-PAH’ ratcheting the pressure against the airgun internals is harsher than filling from a bottle.

    .177 Pellet Seater Tool

I made one using a piece of carbon fiber tube and a blob of JB putty formed on the back of a shallow-skirted pellet.

But will it remove the egginess I've measured? David

    Need a barrel OD ground

The goal is to rescue a barrel with a breech end that is poorly machined at ~.629 diameter to a good 0.625 diameter. Obviously a turned finish is perfectly acceptable if you have enough stock allowance for a clean cut. With this being uneven and barely larger than finish size, I assume turning...

    Need a barrel OD ground

Just the breech end. If your lathe can skim .000-.002 per side without chattering or making it worse, it could work. I assumed only grinding would work here because of the varied and minimal stock allowance.

What are your thoughts on lead exposure?

I started getting my blood lead levels tested a couple years ago and my levels were not negligible. It could have come from swaging pellets, handling pellets while shooting, or reloading (primer dust has lead styphnate). I’m especially careful to not rub my eyes or nose after shooting until I’ve...

Results PSA AAFTA Results - August 10, 2025

I definitely enjoyed the format. 3 targets in 4 minutes is reasonable but especially with an Open setup you have to get into a routine and keep it on schedule. No waiting out the wind for more than a few seconds. Thanks to Mike for having the gumption to attempt this. And thanks to the...

    Need a barrel OD ground

I forgot to mention that using tubing mics I did confirm the ‘wall’ thickness to be uniform within a few tenths, which is to say it’s well centered at the very breech end. Also I don’t mind losing a bit of the end. If they want to overbore, machine center, or turn down 1/2” for grinding...

    Need a barrel OD ground

I have a barrel of particular interest that was machined for a clamp-style receiver at 16mm. It was not machined well and this surface is wavy and inconsistent by a couple thou. I’d like to put this barrel in my RAW which needs to be .625 (+0/-.0005) diameter. So I assume the only good...

    FT & JSB 13.43's?

I’ve tested a variety of 10.x gr, 13.4gr and my two 20ft-lb FT rifles prefer 13.4 original monster profile. I don’t care as much about small improvements in trajectory as I do minimal flyers at 45-55y. Slugs are cool but would be unsafe in many locations, such as my club.

Grossly underpowered for shooting at 100y.

    Swaging

I’m willing to bet that there is no difference if you compare enough measurements over enough spools of wire.

I’ve used it to swage some pellets. My next spool of wire will come from them.

Field Target is an arms race.

I’ve seen a score boost from using a good batch of pellets that the gun likes. That said, my Thomas seems to shoot everything a little better. But it’s only an advantage when it’s shooting a good tin of it’s favorite pellets.

N/A old man that is newby to air guns

A break barrel will be too loud and not powerful enough for many situations. A suppressed subsonic 22LR would be my choice can the suppressor will be the most expensive item. High powered PCP Airguns can do the job but not as cheap or easy as the rimfire.
