Quick update just to say I rechecked to see if the squeak disappeared after having reconfigured the check valve, and indeed it is gone.

Is the symptom that the plenum pressure is climbing to the same pressure as the bottle? If so, the O-ring on the regulator's adjustment screw needs replacing. The Snowpeak regulator probably looks different than this example, but the adjuster is the brass piece on the bottom right.
