Looks like Sonny Slugs is getting into Powder Coating

...the homework online, but no question there is a learning curve in the real world. Seems like the only other airgun slug maker I know of that offers powder coating for airgun slugs is ZAN and AEA. ZAN priced their hyper line 43% above traditional slugs. We'll see how it goes in the coming...

ZAN - Hyper Line, Pellet Sizer, Pellets + more!!!

I'm getting into powder coating by accident. I have a customer who loves an MP .252 slug. Problem is, the slugs vary between .252 and .2535. I'm now going to powder coat these slugs next week so I can get an additional .001 - .002 build-up. Then size 1/2 order .253 & 1/2 .254. I'm sure the...

Hard Cast in .357 big bore

I cast 358 and resize all sorts of shapes down to 355. I don't see why sizing, powder coating or gnurling wouldn't apply to airguns so long as the bearing surface isn't too great. I bet some of the commercially available bulk buy 9mm truncated cones that are powder coated would work.

Airforce Airforce 22 Condor 17 inch LW Barrel 39 gr at 1050 fps

Powder coating is worth it for me in Airguns...Leading is my number one problem with accuracy and slugs..Im using normal cheap production grade barrels..IF i were using American made custom double lapped barrels , lapped after reaming the barrel, and again after rifleing....Like Krieger...

Leading the barrel... that makes perfect sense. Didnt think about tracer effect, either bonus. Appreciate the explanation!

Powder Coating works it isnt snake oil..CCI sells clean 22Ammo for moderators and such..It s powder coated from the factory..Federal also does powder coat pistol ammo.. ...can shake and bake 25 lbs of slugs at a time. There is nothing but good things that come from keeping soft lead in contact with hard steel rifeling.. Most of the pistol cast slug makers been offering powder coating for awile.. Once FX comes out with a powder coated slug everyone will be all...

does powder coating slow big bore ammo down

So ironic that I showed my ignorance to this implementation of powder coating and a week later ZAN releases powder coated slugs. 🤣 I've messed around with HBN, but haven't committed the time to really utilize it.

Looks like Sonny Slugs is getting into Powder Coating

Just go to youtube and search for "powder coating bullets". I watched several videos, modified the techniques to my liking, and started the process. I'm currently in the testing phase.

Hyper line must be a powder coat with some type of dry lubricant added?

This has been debated over and over, but wanted to get your opinion on the powder coating. Benefit for air guns? I know folks talk about less lead dust, etc... but that makes zero difference to me. Great looking little pills there, by the way!

...and be difficult to clean off. The rifling is designed to cut into the lead in on projectile, therefore your "resistance" is still lead, not powder coating. Typically you want about a thousandth of contact, so the powder coating alone would be counter intuitive to diameter consistency.

Hard Cast in .357 big bore

Thats all you need..Slug your barrel ...Most of the cast pistol slugs you can buy are powder coated or high tech same thing..The lead isnt super hard...Im using wheel weights from the 1970's..Extremely hard...I had 200lbs of it for free...Why not try...My .510 Texan with shoot same slugs powder...

Looks like Sonny Slugs is getting into Powder Coating

There is only one way to find out John! Looks like I'm the lone ranger commercially when it comes to powder coating hand casts at the moment. I'm curious on the build-up on smaller calibers. Will probably try .252 tomorrow.
