I can't help you with cheap and accurate. But if I had to bet on getting accuracy without testing, I would get the 10.3 in .177, and the 18.1 in .22, with both coming from either AA or JSB. There have been other private label brands that came from JSB, and they are usually good too.

The only shots that matter are the ones fired on target. If you have 10 record shots at 100 yards with a 41 fps spread, the results will probably be disappointing. If that spread is the result of shooting beyond the reg set point, or the plateau of a non-regulated rifle, then it's a manageable...

The Taipan is a great choice, and it is one of mine as well. On equal footing is the Royale 400 and RAW HM 1000. For backyard pest duty I include my HW100 in .177, tuned to 11 fpe.
