Airgun Technologies The Future of Springers – Are We Still in the Game?

My read of the evidence is that high quality spring guns are a dying market, and therefore new R&D or investment just does not pencil out for manufacturers. The few attempts to bring innovative and/or high quality new products to market in the past 5-10 years have all failed. The new FWB pro...

N/A Best bang (or plink) for the buck?

Congrats and you are off to a great start. The hw95 should give you a lifetime of fun, accurate shooting. It is easy to go down the tuning rabbit hole, especially if you read this forum, but that certainly is not necessary to enjoy shooting and hunting. R

The Beeman R9 is an excellent gun. If it is in decent condition, grab it. R

Very nicely setup R7 you have there. They are such enjoyable and accurate shooters. R

N/A old man that is newby to air guns

Even if you focus on buying used, it will be difficult to find a quality (accurate) spring gun in the $300-350 price range. HW50s or hw95 are great options if you can find one in your price range. Hatsan spring guns have mixed reviews for quality and accuracy. A Umarex notos PCP, with a...

HW/Weihrauch I have my HW50 tuned great,at first I hated it because it did not perform the way people were bragging about it.

I have an ARH plinkers kit in one of my .177 50s. It shoots JSB 8.4s at 700fps, a bit over 9fpe. Excellent setup. I have that kit on my bench waiting to go into my other 50s. R

HW/Weihrauch I have my HW50 tuned great,at first I hated it because it did not perform the way people were bragging about it.

Good to hear you have your hw50s shooting well. My hw50s in .177 is my favorite spring gun. Just right in terms of size and weight, relative to power. I always get optimal accuracy when I tune to somewhere between 10fpe and 11fpe. R

Diana How long can a springer be left cocked before spring degradation?

Hours has virtually no effect. Days maybe, but there are anecdotes about guns being left cocked for weeks with trivial power loss. R

    N/A springer grease ?

ARH moly or ultimox 226 have both served me well for many years. There is more work involved to use ultimox 226 because you have to thoroughly clean out old lubes, but I find that it has (slightly) less sensitivity to temperature. R

    Straight Shooters

Bought an R1k from them 10-12 years ago. They provided a lot of useful empirical data on FPS/FPE for springers with various pellets, and very helpful gun reviews in the 'our take' section of their website. R

Western Airguns Walther LGU .177 Out the Box .... Reviewed By English Tuner

I find it interesting that the LGU/LGV is universally loved by owners, highly sought after in the used market, and yet was DQd by the manufacturer. Ditto the ASP20 and the FWB sport, both come and gone. Not an encouraging sign for the high end spring gun market. Glad we still have a few...

Beautiful gun, and shooting strong too. Congrats 👍 R

HW/Weihrauch What gun did you wish you’d have kept?

I've only sold one, an R1k in .177, and was glad to see it go. Keeping all the others. R

This upsets me because it is not helpful

I have a similar reaction to many of the questions posted here. Replies are often unrelated to the question, and just a cut and paste flogging of whatever the person owns or prefers. Some of that is just human nature, and no reason to get tweaked. If I think that I have something useful to...

N/A Break barrel for Survival Hunting Bugout

Always interesting to read the many opinions that surface in these 'survival gun' threads. I'd take the gun that I currently have the most confidence in as a hunter, my hw50s in .177. I do appreciate that my diet would consist of nothing larger than birds, squirrels and rabbits. R

    Other Alternative to hw50

I have tried squirrel hunting with a lot of spring guns, and the hw50s in .177 is my favorite. Even with a sling, my pro sport and hw97k get quite heavy after an hour or two of walking. The hw50s is relatively light, and has plenty of power for shots out to 30 yards. In the woods I hunt, 30...

    Other Airgun for Squirrel?

As a few others have suggested, go with an hw30s in .177. Light, easy to cock, accurate, and very effective on squirrels within 25 yards. Pistols are difficult to shoot accurately. R

Gamo Better than expected tune up

Yep, clipping coils off a spring would reduce power. From my experience, the change is usually in the 5%-10% ballpark per coil. If you want to tame recoil, reducing power is usually required. Glad that you're happy with how the gun is shooing. R

Gamo Better than expected tune up

Glad you were able to improve your gun's shooting characteristics. A little effort to properly lube internals and fit a spring guide can yield surprising results. Guns with strong recoil often need a coil or two clipped off the spring. If you feel the need to tame your varmint even more, that...

I Have Finally Decided On my Hunting Setups,,, Took 8 Months

Nice collection of spring guns, and a great overview on the merits of each for hunting. I have been hunting with springers for years, going after squirrels, quail, rabbits and grouse. For years, my main hunter was my .177 hw97k. But even with a sling, that thing is a porker. Now I hunt with...
