I have a Remington Model 7 CDL in 17 Fireball which, from brand new, would not hold zero because the retaining screws on the picatinny rail had a tiny amount of sideways slop, even when fully tightened. So, as I was happy with the rifle in all other aspects, I applied a smear of epoxy between rail and receiver. Five years on, the zero has not moved.

Not what you should have to do with a new gun. But TBH I have not yet bought a gun which I have not had to tinker with.😡
