That point is the reason products for reviews (I believe Consumers Reports does this) are oft bought off the shelf. Considering that a lot of any gun will produce a bell curve of performance why not make sure reviewers only get the best performing guns. Frankly, when you get high end in guns it takes high end skills to notice.
There is a center fire rifle manufacture (I can’t recall what one, but I wanna say Savage) that charges a premium for guns proven to be sub MOA. They fire um all, the best performers cost the most and the cast offs cost less. Every gun is made exactly the same. The cast offs are still worthy, it’s just that a butterfly flapped its wings in Tanzania or something when the barrel was made.
