Good luck and listen to the doc… Best reason to use air is the the pump weights less than powder and when traveling by canoe sooner or later  you WILL go in…

Good point, his journal actually states that they cached supplies and powder partly I am sure for that purpose.

Still I cannot see the president passing up a chance to field test such a weapon.

What many people who has never shot a muzzle loader is the amount of time and exposure to return fire it requires to reload, At that time a solder almost had to at minimum kneel if not stand to reload. Further at that time the most advanced powder gun was a Flint Lock, Percussion cap wasn't invented till 1800 

A repeating rifle able to be reloaded and recharged with the extra pressure tank and able to shoot even 10 rounds without stopping worrying about wet Flint everyone thinks wet powder is bad, but wet Flint is the biggest misfire issue.

Studies showed that in most battles of that age a solder only shot his gun 3 to four times and even less before advance was ordered 

Think what kind of advancement and edge such a weapon would have made
