I was at the range today with the Royale 400 .22. I realized I had forgotten to bring any 16 grain pellets, but I shot a couple of groups at 25 yards on low, with the JSB 18. Shot through the chrono, very stable velocity at 500 fps (Huma reg). It shot ragged, one-hole groups. Don't have any idea about shot count, but I'm sure I'd get tired of shooting before running out of air. I have become a huge fan of this rifle, and the original ST barrel. I had a Crown with the Smooth Twist X liner system. It shot good, but needed frequent cleaning. I've yet to clean the Royale after 1,000+ shots. And I never re-zero, POI is steady as a rock. New is not always better.

That's funny, cause I'd heard the original smooth twists did not like low velocity, so it's interesting to hear they do that well.  But given the feedback, I'm confident I can find a recipe that will work.  Also ordered in a 700mm slug liner, so I'll be playing with both ends of the power spectrum.  Also reached out to TJ to see if I can get a custom liner more suited to shooting low velocities.

Based on my limited experience with the X liner system in my Crown, and the original ST barrel in my Royale, I haven't found anything that the original ST barrel doesn't do better! Now, full discosure, I'm not a high power fan, nor do I shoot slugs, both of which may be better accommodated in the X liner system. I'm sure the FX development team found advantages in the newer liner system with full length rifling. Whatever they are, they don't seem to be in my realm of shooting activities.
