Nice review! I have the basic Caldwell (well, two of them), and the small Emerson E9700 that Joe tested on AGN here and didn’t work for him. Mine has always worked for me, and it “appears” to give about the same velocity as my “real” chronographs, but I have never tested as you did. I just bring it out in the field with me to check if something has changed or check speed prior to hunting… I’ve even shot it a few times by mistake and is still works the same as always. It reads in meters per second, and can’t be changed to feet per second, but that’s not a big deal. Now I’m curious. Next time I set up my Caldwell I’ll set this one in front and see just how “close” it is to a real chrony.
