Element – the problem with cutting off the factory spring is that it is too light to be un/less-loaded. You have to increase the spring wire diameter to somewhere around 0.057″. The factory has the original spring is preloaded quite a bit, which creates poor efficiency despite the slingshot hammer. Once you go to a stronger spring and “negative” preload, you will be impressed at the extra speed and efficiency. The trade off is a bit more cocking force.
