It actually balances nicely in hand and was designed for Silhouette shooting, which is all free hand. I put a set of 2240 target grips and Burris Elite pistol scope on mine. The weight of the air pistol steadies the hold, but I usually shoot it sitting down off my knee or off of shooting bag.
It is backyard friendly if that is an issue being more of a target pistol than a hunter. I tuned mine to about 600 fps with 7.9g wad cutters, which shoots relatively flat but doesn’t produce enough fpe to hunt with (not its intended purpose) humanely , although some folks do crank it up and do just that. I think you can see from these posts that it is highly recommended and that you will not be disappointed.
