The purpose of the sidewheel is to make it easier to use your paralax focusing for distance measuring, as the sidewheel can be marked with the distance the scope is in focus. Then you can take that distance and if you know your pellet drop at that distance, work out the holdover or elevation clicks to hit your target. The larger the sidewheel, the more resolution you can get on your distance measurementsup to a certain point. That’s what happens in air rifle field target when they approach targets at varying distances over a course that are unknown.
