@RM.510bigbore I don't know how those crops grow, but I've read about them being grown for livestock feed and fodder. 2 acres worth is a decent sized food plot. When is a good time of year to plant sorghum and millet so that it will be up by autumn?
You plant Sorghum and millett the same time as you would corn in your area..The difference between it and corn is it is drought tolerent and grows in poor ph poor nutrition soil that corn will not thrive in.. In my area the deer density is very high...Im to blame i like my pet momma does and babies...lol....Deer eat corn through every life stage....Deer hate millett and sorghum while it is growing and leave it alone...They eat the seed heads and use for cover during hunting season and winter...I have $50.00 in 25 lb of WGM Sorghum seed with shipping and a extra $12.00 in a millett mix birdseed mix from rural king 20 lbs..To do the edges and provide extra cover...I want to lime and fertlize but not really in the budget this month...Next month ill buy one bag of 64-0-0 nitrogen and put in the sprayer on my quad and foilier spray it. So ill budget $35.00 a month for a bag of 64-0-0...Better to give them something than nothing... Ive done acres of the black oil sunflower seed 40 lbs bags at rural king 18.99..in the same field poor soil...Grew great..Only problem deer birds and everthying else eat them completley...So they are great and bad...Black oil sunflower s Deer absoutly love and are cheap easy to grow....can help if you wanna grow anything..one of my blessings..
