Thank you! Shooter, craftsman, engineer, and a lifetime of making and manufacturing things. What training background you have that helped develop these skills? The stock looks great.
It looks like 2 different stocks because the grains just change so much from top pic. Can't wait to see the finished product.Cutting some Curly Cherry for a Barra 250z. I am excited to see what is uncovered as it gets cut and finished.

The recoil pad is a rigid base with a flexible urethane . The tooling is made with cutting a master pattern and then casting a silicone mold off the master. I have also cut aluminum molds and cast directly from them. That is some impressive work. Being a mechanic for the last 30 years , I am impressed with woodwork. I don’t have the patience for it , not to mention the tooling. Can’t wait to see how this one turns out. Great project.
I’m curious about the butt pad molding. What material do you use?
Agree, I will NOT be using any stain on it and will let sunlight do the work over time.Another great looking piece of work Loren! Because natural sunlight and age is what darkens the cherry, have you thought about hanging the raw wood stock out in the sun from a string? Hanging a scrap piece outside for a week or two to watch it progressively turn dark may show that the wood looks better than stained finishes can achieve.
