Daystate Is Daystate to BroCock/ Now BRK like Cadillac is to Buick / Oldsmobile or vice versa?

To give those who may not know what I am referring to an idea as to what I am talking about, here is an explanation:

As Cadillac is the luxury division of General Motors (GM), other GM brands, such as Buick, Oldsmobile, and Chevrolet, have historically been used to test technology before being implemented in Cadillac models. This practice allowed GM to work out potential issues in a high-volume, non-luxury vehicle before migrating the technology to its premium Cadillac line.

So Is Daystate or BroCock now known as BRK the Cadillac in this scenario, your reasons and why?

Who is the Cadillac and who is the Oldsmobile or does it change at times?
 
Its not comparable to your car analogy…

… why you ask? Because Daystate and many other “premium” manufacturers don’t make their own barrels…

… that’s like Cadillac not making their own engines for their cars.

The major “premium” airgun manufacturers that make their own barrels is Weihrauch and FX…. I’m sure there are a couple others, give me a moment to think of them.

Bottom line is that a manufacturer like Daystate with an all-electronic platform with a 2 ounce trigger and a 0fps extreme spread over 25+ shots….

… still has the accuracy of it’s rifles highly dependent on the batch of barrels it sourced from 3rd party Lothar Walthar.

My opinion… the “law of diminishing returns” very much applies to airguns and their ultimate accuracy. I tear em all apart and work on them extensively to achieve ultimate accuracy, regardless of cost.

Well it is interesting that Cadillac the racing team Cadillac turned to McLaren Engines, an engineering firm separate from the McLaren F1 team, to help develop a twin-turbocharged version of the Northstar engine for its Le Mans Prototype (LMP) race cars in the year 2000.

It is an interesting analogy and I am sure a few people would be interested in takes on it. I welcome your input. IMHO I believe Cadillac jacked up ( as in messed up McLarens Design as far as the cars go ). But to the victor goes the narrative and spoils. Though I wouldn't call GM a victor in any sense of the word lol.

Surely in the air gun world there must be some crossover no? One has to be better then other which could equate to one using the other for advancement based on shear competition?

Yes everything can be improved upon, you are an exception to the norm in your ability/skill to work on such details concerning air guns.

Daystate seems to be going more electronic recently or no? Isn't Ghost Mechanical? I agree with your assessment but I welcome all input to see and hear peoples thoughts.

As far as I know ”all” the BRKs are mechanical, I also would like to read what “others” think on this particular particular thread…🙏

Its almost as if BroCock or BRK works out the mechanical and Daystate takes it electronic and cosmetic! It does present the question but it could we way off. I am interested in thoughts on it.

The real question is who is the Cadillac in this scenario lol!

Meat and potato's verse a mink coat, we will leave Joe Namath and the Jets out of this!

Besides I can think of no better topic then comparing BroCock / now known as BRK to Daystate. Its just a great comparison IMO.

Besides nothing wrong with holding Daystate and Brocock / BRK feet to the fire! Competition breeds excellence!

Short answer. Daystate is the premium brand, Brocock a step down but definitely a rock solid performer

Daystate’s newest addition is the Blackwolf which is mechanical. Much like the Brocock Ghost but in a rifle rather than a bullpup.

At the price point we’re talking you’d typically no longer expect “better” to be the right way to think about differentiators. Rather “different”. Ultimately, consistent accuracy is the easiest category to measure objectively, everything else becomes subjective (perceived differences as to fit and finish, feel, form factor and ergonomics etc are subjective at that point since they are already on a very high level for both) Both Daystate and BRK mostly use Huma regs and LW barrels, which are the main drivers for this. Still waiting for the sub moa barrel for my ghost (back order since forever…), based on the other sub moa barrel I have that will make the rifle “better”. Everything else is, eventually, taste imho.

It is true, thus the thread topic to help people know more, ask questions, and investigate deeper. Besides if your in sales the best customer is an informed one. This thread helps bring it all together and get peoples thoughts on it. As a side note, so that no one gets confused:

No, the Diana Group that owns Brocock is not the same company as the German Diana airgun manufacturer. The Diana Group, based in Italy, owns Brocock, Daystate, and Marocchi. The German Diana company, Mayer & Grammelspacher, produces airguns under the "Diana" brand and is a separate entity owned by GSG/L&O
