RAW Rapid HM1000x Pellet Probe Grub Screw Size

Here's a pic of the two screws, the shorter screw is the correct one. I can see now that it's a different pitch but every m3 screw I can find says it has .5 pitch which is what the replacement was. Does anyone know what the coarse thread is called?

I actually ordered a 4-40 screw first just based on the hex key size the screw took but thought I was ordering an m4 which seemed too big when i measured the actual diameter of the grub screw 2.72. So I ordered an m3 and assumed the 4-40 was too small before receiving and trying it and was going to return the 4-40(which I thought was a m4).

Is a 4-40 an m4 or is it it's own thing?
