I've bought a few nicely figured pieces of walnut this size for the same purpose off ebay. The nicer the figuring, the higher the price . The piece in the picture below started as a 2x2x12 that I cut to size.

2x2 seems a bit large for the width?

I have a 72 Sheridan stock that should make a nice cheek peice.

Here's a pic of it.
I have been using it for parts as you can see in this pump handle repair. Although it appears to be a very dark walnut, it finishes out rather light as you can see in this photo. I had to stain it for a better match.
