Was it the hand pump, the Jet 2 or both?I'm also new this high tech world of airgunning and was looking to get a foot in the door and was gonna go with the JTS airacuda max rifle. There's a combo deal out there for 900 bucks gun and air compressor. I ended up going a different route. With a jet 2 and a hand pump. Which i wouldn't recommend that road.
Yeah, and a short barrel gun like the Jet unfortunately is not a good comparison to a long gun.I got the jet 2 and hand pump as my start up. Just to be able to compare the fpe and what not with something. Read all the specs you want but not able to compare wasn't doing me any good
My options were limited, they had a few on the rack but nothing that was high on my radar. I wanted to walk out with something and the Jet2 was it. And the jet is why I ended up buying a sidewinder instead of the blitz.Yeah, and a short barrel gun like the Jet unfortunately is not a good comparison to a long gun.
Single gun comparison you would need something like an AirForce Talon with a couple different barrel lengths. But that starts getting expensive quick.
You can pick up used 1st and 2nd Gen Umarex Gauntlet pretty cheap but they are long and heavy. Lots of power and reliable. One in the classifieds for $200.
Umarex Notos, Barra 250z and Niksan Ozark can be found under $500. 250z is a good rifle and can be upgraded fairly easy. Notos is very popular and lots of mods out there for it. Ozark is just a solid shooter with an adjustable transfer port.
All three are pretty solid out to 50 yards and the 250z can reach further.
Pinty p-force guns are pretty cheap and for the most part reliable. Have been some issues with the first go round. But pretty good for the price
Ive gone the opposite direction from semiauto to single shot and side lever. Although my AEA Terminator is still a regular. My options were limited, they had a few on the rack but nothing that was high on my radar. I wanted to walk out with something and the Jet2 was it. I never minded single shots until I got a gamo with the 10 round clip.Ive gone the opposite direction from semiauto to single shot and side lever. Although my AEA Terminator is still a regular.
I dismissed the AirForce single shots. Now that I own a few they are some of my favorites. So many options to upgrade and so easy to implement.
Lol, I had an Umerex Forge single shot and hated it. Bought a Whisper with the magazine.I never minded single shots until I got a gamo with the 10 round clip.
I get you, I didn't know about them until a few years ago... then I researched... then I pulled the trigger. I bought the UX Zelos in .22 (you will want a .22, or .177 for where you live), this gun is so accurate that I can drive tacks into a post with ease out to 45yds. It is quite powerful, nice and simple if you don't want to tinker with it, but it is a great platform to add on to. It comes with an internal shroud (you can buy the baffles at Bravo 3D) and a 1/2 threaded muzzle so that you can get your shots to become whisper quiet (other than the hammer hitting the valve stem), plus it comes with two 20rd mags, it will shoot 2 1/2 to 3 mags out of the box. As for accessories, I have a Athlon Argos Gen 2, 6-24-50x, a folding handgrip (I don't really use), and a Magpull bipod. If you want a absolutely quiet gun (that is wastes air due to the higher pressure, meaning that once your fill tank goes below around 4500psi, well, you get less shots per fill) you could get the Air Venturi Avenge-X, I put a moderator on that, all you hear is the pellet, but it only comes with a 10 and 16 rd mag. The side lever on the Zelos is SO smooth, versus the one on the Avenge-x which is not, plus you have to get used to the Avenge-X, as if you don't cock it all the way, you will make a jam of biblical proportions and need to take the barrel out. I hope you found this helpful!I'm 65 and retired, I just did a little research and the PCP guns have me excited. As a kid I pretty much wore out a Crosman 1400 (or was it a 1100?). I used that gun almost daily (when it was not freezing out) for pigeons, starlings, crows and even a large dumpster raccoon. My kids finally killed that old gun, the seals are blown, now it sits in a corner because I'm too attached to it to throw it away.
My son had a break open Benjaman that I never really liked. It was heavy, noisy, and the kick was strange to me, and I just never bonded to that gun. I live in a city and my back yard is hidden so I can safely shoot about 75" towards a 10' tall concrete retaining. Sound is the biggest issue and from what I have read today, many of the new PCPs are pretty quiet. I didn't even know these guns existed when I woke up this AM, now after reading an article about them, I'm excited and really want to get one. As far as a price point, I want a good gun but I don't want to spend large amounts of money on something that makes my groups just a little better. I like guns that are fairly simple, and I also prefer guns that look traditional, not like an AR15 or some weapon used by the space invaders. What I also need is advice on how much to spend, I'm thinking between $500 and $1000. As far as why I'm getting one, I will be killing starlings, maybe an old sick chicken and some rats. I also will enjoy punching holes in paper at about 25 yards. Please let me know your ideas, if all these PCPs look like a black space invader gun, so be it, what's most important to me it that it has a good safety, that it's well made, and that it has reasonably good accuracy. Owe on another point, I live close to the ocean with a dive store not 2 miles from me so I'm pretty sure I can find a used tank and a place to fill it.
