Introducing myself - asking for advice on a new airgun while I'm at it.

I'm also new this high tech world of airgunning and was looking to get a foot in the door and was gonna go with the JTS airacuda max rifle. There's a combo deal out there for 900 bucks gun and air compressor. I ended up going a different route. With a jet 2 and a hand pump. Which i wouldn't recommend that road.

Was it the hand pump, the Jet 2 or both?

I got the jet 2 and hand pump as my start up. Just to be able to compare the fpe and what not with something. Read all the specs you want but not able to compare wasn't doing me any good
Yeah, and a short barrel gun like the Jet unfortunately is not a good comparison to a long gun.

Single gun comparison you would need something like an AirForce Talon with a couple different barrel lengths. But that starts getting expensive quick.

You can pick up used 1st and 2nd Gen Umarex Gauntlet pretty cheap but they are long and heavy. Lots of power and reliable. One in the classifieds for $200.

Umarex Notos, Barra 250z and Niksan Ozark can be found under $500. 250z is a good rifle and can be upgraded fairly easy. Notos is very popular and lots of mods out there for it. Ozark is just a solid shooter with an adjustable transfer port.

All three are pretty solid out to 50 yards and the 250z can reach further.

Pinty p-force guns are pretty cheap and for the most part reliable. Have been some issues with the first go round. But pretty good for the price.

My options were limited, they had a few on the rack but nothing that was high on my radar. I wanted to walk out with something and the Jet2 was it. And the jet is why I ended up buying a sidewinder instead of the blitz.

Ive gone the opposite direction from semiauto to single shot and side lever. Although my AEA Terminator is still a regular.

I dismissed the AirForce single shots. Now that I own a few they are some of my favorites. So many options to upgrade and so easy to implement.

I got into airguns because of rats! I second igolfat8's recommendation of a Taipan Vet....I recently purchased a like new used Vet2 Tac off the classifieds here from a friend, the build quality is second to none, fantastic trigger, efficient with air usage and they come with CZ barrels, stupid accurate and quiet. There were a couple used ones for sale here. Two others that are similar are AGT Uragan 2 and RTI Prophets that have the same CZ barrels. Have fun researching and well, shooting! Ammo is another thing, smaller calibers like .22 and .177 cost much less than .25-.30....

I never minded single shots until I got a gamo with the 10 round clip.

Lol, I had an Umerex Forge single shot and hated it. Bought a Whisper with the magazine.

The break barrel single shot put me off all single shot. Mainly the cocking and loading requiring you take eyes off the target.

Fell into a TalonSS and discovered the difference between pcp and break barrel single shots.

That and I really enjoyed modifying the Talon
