Air Venturi Love/Hate... The Avenger

A few of us got together and decided to try some less expensive guns. We are always trying to get folks at the range interested, but as soon as they find out your "BB guns" cost 2k, they are no longer interested. We set our all-in budget to include a scope at less than 1k. I bought a Gauntlet2 SL in.22, another guy bought a Marauder in .25, and the third guy bought an Avenger in .177. All are much better than the sum of their parts, but the Avenger has turned out to be absolutely stellar.
It quickly outgrew the disposable UTG scope and now wears a Vector Minotaur 12-60 that is on sale for 319 new. Two screws in the trigger were replaced with longer ones, which resulted in a very clean single-stage trigger under a pound. It didn't seem right to leave it in the plastic suit, so it was treated to a new laminate tuxedo since it was only 129 at Pyramyd. The result is a 20 FPE gun that loves QYS pellets. More than a tin without a cleaning so far.

Why the love? It shoots as good as anything else in its power range.....Anything!

Why the hate? It shoots as good as anything else in its power range.....Anything!

It makes it hard to justify more expensive guns. Granted, when something breaks on it, it's probably done for. But until then, I'm going to shoot it till the barrel is smooth!

All groups below were shot at the local range with witnesses.

3 consecutive groups at 100 just for a goof.

10 shots at 3-1/2 inches. Ho hum.

9 shots at 100 2", now things are looking up.

Finally 5 shots at 100 under an inch! I didn't have the guts to try for a 6th shot!

I showed up with an impact, they scoffed at the pricing and how dumb I was. They shot it for a day. The next weekend they had Mavericks 😂

My 25 caliber Avenger was my second PCP. I do not shoot it a lot because it is so long. I figured out I prefer bullpups. It is tuned to shoot 34 grain JSBs at a little over 50 fpe. I haven't seriously shot it on targets for awhile but at least with the pellets I've used so far at the tune I've used it is not as accurate as your 177. But it is pretty accurate and packs a significant punch. It leaked when I got it but was fixed and hasn't had an issue since.

My favorite airguns are SPA bullpups. I've shot a 200 on the 30 yard challenge with two different 22 caliber SPA bullpups so far. Most of the guys shooting these targets are using more expensive guns and some of them shoot much better than I do but I have fun just being competitive. My one more expensive airgun is no more accurate than my 22 caliber SPA bullpups (a P35-22 and a Bullshark).
