new to PCP and need a portable compressor

I think my YH is over 4 years old now. Last fall the bottle fills got up to about 45 minutes and I invested $20 in a new piston. It's back to about 20 minutes now. I agree completely it is loud and I also think it's a bit crude compared to GX compressors but the darned thing works. Parts are readily available and cheap.

I hear they last or die on the first charge. I like the price but dang it seems they are hit or miss. Are you getting the others because of tanks? Since you had the VEVOR for 2 years, are the moisture filters good and are they easily found along with parts?
You should definitely get a better inline filter. Those small filters that come with the compressor will need to be changed more frequently, and will let water get by if they get too wet. This gx filter comes with an extra replacement core. It also has magnets on the back to stick to the side of the compressor, and a hose. Its 10% off right now.

Here’s my infrequently used GXcs4i and the Tuxing Twin 042 both with extra cooling and on dollies to roll around the cellar.
The GX will fill a 9 liter bottle from completely empty in 5 hours of constant running vs about an hour for the Tuxing twin.
Thats why the GX has been relegated to backup status.

This may sound like a "you shouldn't do this" question but it is not.

I am interested in why you prefer filling a 9-litre bottle to direct filling with a smaller compressor. I went in the other direction, but am still open to other solutions.

Filling a guns tank with a bottle is just about as instantaneous as you can get. I started with a amzon $200 little compressor but it quickly developed into p.i.t.a.

My CS3 refilling the gun gives me time to reload the mags. I try to match the number of mag shots with the amount of air in the gun to shoot them.
I usually take 4 or 5 PCP rifles to the range and swap each onto the compressor in turn, also have a bunch of magazines, meaning that the CS3 can run almost continually. Since I am the only PCP shooter and there are only 3 or 4 airgunners at our club, perspectives are far more important to inform me than for most people.

I greatly appreciate the patience and generosity of those who entertain questions that may appear to of little value.

I'll second the comments that have been made about protecting yourself for future growth in the hobby. Since you seem to already know you like this hobby, I'd plan on someting that can fill tanks. Filling your gun from tanks is so much better than waiting for a compressor. And when shooting for extended session on the bench, you can leave the tank hooked up to gun and just burp a little more air into it every few mags (or whatever works best for you). With a tank, you get as close to non-stop airgun shooting as you can get . . . .

This afternoons set up with my brother.
Needless to say, just a tank would never cut it.

Tank plus cs4-i... that keeps us going all afternoon. I personally would never go with just a tank, you're limited to what you have in that, and you could be going home way sooner than you want to.

We've been shooting non stop now for 4hrs, and his 2 guns really eat up air.

I like filling from my bottle because it is so quick and nearly silent. But it is a finite supply of air, it will never fill a gun to 300 bar even one time, and the bottle is harder to transport than my CS2. My CS2 takes 3-5 minutes to refill my guns which is much more time but not really a big deal at least most of the time. I like to use it to refill a gun after I work on it just to avoid the big drain on the bottle. Both clearly work. Nice to have options.

Thanks for the heads up. I appreciate all the advise! It remonds me when I started shooting (powder) when I was younger. The community is willing to help each other.

The cs4, being portable, you can take it anywhere. If you are an airhog.. your option is to use both, a bottle and compressor at the same time. Shoot your guns and fill off the bottle, and refill the bottle as you shoot. My brother and I run a cs4-i nearly non stop between the two of us when using the big bore guns. The cs4 models can handle running for hours and with the auto stop, we set it and forget it. By the time we come back to refill, the tanks topped off and the water is usually cooled down too.

We used to use one of those big gold filters, total pain since you can't easily mount it. We have the new GX filter on it now. You will want a filter for sure if doing this as you'll be consuming a lot of air and you won't want to be going back and forth bleeding the air.

If you're not in a position to get all of that, the cs4 you can grow into. If you do not think you'll be going to a bottle and or using a ton of air the cs3 would be ideal.

If you want a total home set up 5k1 or 5k2 the YH is cheaper, but it's very loud and you'll be spending more and more money just to support it. I ran a YH for about 2 years.

BBSGLLC affiliate link, we work directly with GX

Thanks. I'm just starting out so this information is helpful regarding how to plan moving forward. Won't lie, feeling a little overwhelmed.

That's awesome. Right now I'll be shooting in my backyard which opens to a greenbelt. So I can go from 20-25 yards to maybe pushing 40.

That is some food for thought. I do have a standard scuba tank right now (sure it needs to get inspected/pressure tested when I fill it again).

Does this apply to all the gx compressors, even the CS4?
