Dnt thermals

I am pleased with my 225 it picks up so much on thermal. My long shot on mouse is 65 yards with a vulcan 3hp .30. 59 gr zan at 970fps. The thermal is a game changer. I leave it in thermal to spot and find then switch to day or ir. I can scan my shooting area in seconds. Ive seen rabbits out to 300 to 400 yards. Yotes to half mile it picks up cars 3 to 4 miles. Although you cant id targets with the thermal it does pick up the heat signatures well. I prefer black hot I like the comtrast. I would imagine the 335 and 635 are better but I have not seen or touched them.

I have a Zulus V1, a 225 and a 635. First I had the Zulus. Then came the 225. Resolution wise it is (quite) a step back from the Zulus V1, (you can see the individual pixels!) but as an entry level thermal it was nice anyway!

But because of the low res thermal forget using it to ID an animal. It will tell you just that: -“There is something there inside the tree leaves”…
Now with the 635 it’s a totally different ball game, the view quality in day/night mode is comparable to the Zulus, (but I like the menu layout and presentation much better on the 635) but the thermal compared to the 225… Day and night! it’s going like from your old seventies NTSC aerial TV to a 4k screen! The thermal view (resolution) is nothing short of amazing!

So if you need to choose between a 225 and a 335, and you can fork out the money… Get the highest res you can, the pain of spending is felt only once, whereas the joy of owning remains!

Earlier this year I upgraded, from SightMark Wraith HD 2-16x28 to the DNT ThermNight TNC335R, and I am loving it!
It is so much easier to find the rodents, ducking behind the vegetation, with thermal.

This rat has been casing my house for the past two weeks, looking for a point of entry. It finally found a weakness, on a crawl space vent, and broke in!

Apparently, I assume during construction, someone that probably needed to run a power cord into the crawl space, cut an access in the crawl space vents screen mesh. I was aware of it, but didn’t think a rat was strong enough to fold it open.

Well, caught on camera, I now know that rats do have the strength to bend wire mesh!

Incredibly interesting video!!! Have not seen anything posted anywhere with a rat working wire mesh like that. Well done. That earned a sub.

I would be interested in seeing a video on your DNT after the kill with a switch to NV for the main screen and thermal for PIP. As a consumer my largest concern with purchasing a DNT is the 1920x1080 NV resolution. In the video above, did you focus on the PIP or the thermal image for shooting? Do you feel that you utilized the NV portion of the screen as part of your shoot/dont shoot sequence?

In this video, I forgot to turn on the IR for the NV, I targeted the rat using the Thermal.

The DV/NV camera is base 5X and the Thermal is base 2X magnification.
My backyard pesting ranges 10-15 Meters from the 2nd story window to the fence line, so I prefer to sweep the backyard using the Thermal full screen and the NV in PIP because of the Thermal's wider field of view at 2X.

When I need to sweep the backyard, I use the Thermal. When rodents are at the bait station (1:45 in the video), I use the NV.

So, that rat view was thermal only at 2x.
About how many yards away from your shooting position @BlackTitanium ?
Thanks

I had the 225 and sold it. It was ok at no zoom but got very pixelated once you zoomed in. As @Scotay42 said the Mars 1000 is quite the scope for the money. I have one and just upgraded to the 75mm lens. Best thermal for the money IMHO. And I have a lot of thermal scopes including a 1280x1024 resolution.

Does the 1000 just tell you the range or does it give the holdover too.

The DNT 335 is a pretty good choice . But it does have one quirk that I’m really not fond of. I sent them an email and did get a response. I think if enough people complain about it , they would change the software .

The zero is tied to the rifle. But the ballistics is found in another window. This means that if you change pellets you also have to have a second rifle stored with a different zero. Even more trouble if you want to swap to another rifle. Could have been much simpler to have the ballistics tied into the rifle. This would eliminate the need to have multiple zero’s for one rifle. Change your numbers under the same rifle when changing ammo .

With that said , I would buy another as I don’t know of any other optic with the same features in that price range.

@Pfddr
I have been reviewing specs and comparing the DNT 225R & 335Rto the MARS 1000LR.
Both DNT scopes list specs for thermal and visual light channel modes, but the MARS only lists thermal specs.
My questions are
Does the MARS 1000LR actually have a night vison mode?
Can the MARS be used in daylight?

Thanks
Edward

@SilentSquirrel - The MARS 1000 is only a thermal scope, not a "multispectral" like the DNT ThermNights. I have a Zulus 3-12 that I use mostly during the day. I have a PARD Landsat 640 which is comparable to the TNC635R. I will use it during the day if it's handy for pests but I mostly use it a night. Since it is a 640k resolution, you can make out what you are shooting at very easily. I rarily change over to the NV side to shoot anything at night with it anymore. I still grab a glass scope for the day.

I use all thermal scopes during the day quite a lot now. With the higher resolution, you can see stuff hiding in the brush where a glass or NV scope will not be abl;e to see it. I use it for the squirrels and rats that go up in the trees to hide during the day and they work great. Maybe not "sporting" but I'm pesting so the idea is to get ride of them. That being said, I will use the PARD Landsat during the day to find the pest with the thermal and then switch over to the digital day mode to shoot it so I can really see all the "surroundings" to miss the branches.

The only thing that keeps me from using a digital scope all the time is the eye to screen burn in. And here is where the DNT does have one over the MARS in that you can use the WiFi to scan for critters on you phone while the Oneleaf does not have WiFi yet (They said they are working on a firmware upgrade as they apparently have the chipset in the scope already). I use a thermal monocular when night hunting to avoid using the scope to find the targets. It saves on your eyes burning out but not by much.
