Shin Sung Hunting Master AR-6 .22
With the pad out from under the pin where the hammer hits: 900FPS.
With the pad: 600FPS
@kwaping Benjamin Marauder pistol with a Donny FL Tanto. You’ll hear the impact and the bolt clicking to load the next pellet louder than the shot. Consider shooting Predator Polymag shorts.Adding my own question to this thread... What's a good, quiet pistol in .22 for rats at close range? They keep taunting me where I can't easily get them with my rifle. This is about 3-5 yards at night with sleeping neighbors all around.
set GK1 @ 8 FPE and forget it , perfect pester !Yes, it is possible to dial the GK1's power down, but the time that it takes to do that is far too long for an immediate pest shooting opportunity. I leave my GK1s set for 700 fps. My PP700SA is set up for 600FPS with a 15gr JSB pellet. I have ruined the day of many pigeons at 100 meters with the PP700SA and yet the PP700SA will not punch holes in ceramic roof tiles and the GK1 will. Your call.
I just rid my world of a couple of sparrows with the red dot Reximex. One at 15 ft the other 15 yards. The pistols I own are all sighted at 13 yards in basement. I have 4 pistols without any stocks cause that’s the way I want it. The rifles are there when wanted. I do like magnification for the more powerful Huben 22, better to see amongst the brush and branches in the back yard. I did get into super sicko buying frenzy when laid up over last winter and spring so plenty of choices.IMHO none of the guns here with optics blocking the iron sights will be very useful at short range eg 20'. That's because of the offset of the optic above the bore line. Unless you adjust the optic for around 20' in which case (a) it will be way off further out and (b) isn't needed at that short range anyway.
My pest control needs are backyard so around 15' to 60' max; usually 25'-40'. Starting off with several misconceptions - despite extensive reading - and not realizing the above fundamental fact cost me $$ and many wasted hours trying to fit a round peg in a square hole.
So for a backyard pest control pistol I would only get one that can mount a red dot while still providing co-witness of the iron sight. My Hatsan Mod 25 Supertact pistol / carbine achieves this as long as the red dot is native 11mm dovetail mount.
Or, if you can, have two guns - one for close-up and one with an optic for distance. More money but much less time and aggro dealing with compromises.
Which leads to this point: for longer ranges you'll want a shoulder stock anyway. That's why I moved to a carbine. The big scopes on the pistols here look great and will make the view more clear, which helps - but not more stable. Without nearly a "whole arm" shooting rest I find it hard to even aim a pistol within an inch at 60'. And the less surface you can grip the harder it is to use a loose "artillery hold", which is important with a spring gun.
With a pistol sighted for 13 yards, where did you aim to get the bird at 15 feet? Half an inch high, or more? That's my experience and it's too much guesswork when I have only one chance and want a kill shot rather than a fly-away. But I'm shooting 0.177 with 7.4 grain pellets, and suppose that 0.22 gives you more leeway.I just rid my world of a couple of sparrows with the red dot Reximex. One at 15 ft the other 15 yards. The big scope on the Huben is a Burris 3-12 with about 9x being the max usable power and it is a compromise but there is not many actual pistol scopes to choose on the market.
Ohh I can’t see irons anymore anyway.
ya got me thinking… when I got the Rexi last November Im sure I knew the trajectory. Since then it’s just been perfect and if I hit what I’m aiming at I’m happy and if I miss no big deal. With a pistol sighted for 13 yards, where did you aim to get the bird at 15 feet? I don't have good eyesight either but the irons are right there on the gun and I see them fine, along with a target at 20'. Using them on a target at distance is difficult so I'd like a 2x or even 3x scope for those, but as described that doesn't work out overall for me. Too bad there are no or almost no red dots with magnification.
Agreed. All of mine see use. It's just which one I feel like using, or will do the job better. Often it's which one have I been shooting recently and am 100% certain of POI. Got a 7 fpe .177 pcp up to 65 fpe .25 and everything inbetween.Sure does depend on which pest...
