OK. Here's the first and last time I shot at 100 yards . The first center group had the better wind conditions . The next groups were shot fast in light gusting winds just to get some shots on paper . I used 18gr fx badged jbs pellets in the 880 range, back when I was still learning to tune and index . I have no doubt I could do better and wouldn't have expected great groups with my PBs in the same conditions. We seldom get a calm day and makes even the 30y challenge tough . I needed to work on my hold off for wind and now dial in instead of using holdover at distance.

The group sizes were 2.32" , 1.73" , 1.91", 2.01" and a best of 1.20" 3 shot group . A 1.83" average for 19 shots . A golf ball is 1.68" . So .154 " over a golf ball .

That there is a deadly combo. Once I stumbled on those RWS slugs and a rifle they worked in ( Evanix K550) I bought a few thousand of them. Krale hasn’t had them in stock for over a year now. Not that I need anymore of them. They also shoot very well from. Redmans .22lr barrel liner. Which is an extremely easy fit in any FX impact .

The K550 shooting these slugs will do 1 MOA on average at 100 yards. That’s tuned to about 70 fpe.

RAW .30 @100Y with JSB 44. #11 is my smallest group I’ve ever shot at 100Y with pellets.

Looking almost absurd!!
Fantastic groupings Tim
Looking prime for Pyramid Cup
Geesh ...looking at these makes me miss my RAW even more :(
Great shooting Tim

That’s great shooting!

I doubt I would keep all shots scoring 7 or better with 6-9 winds and 14mph gusts across as many targets as you shot.

My 100 yard shooting is almost always in those exact wind conditions you had (or worse in the spring) at my brother’s range. I don’t shoot enough sighters and recall that I usually have at least a few shots each session that are outside the 7-ring - when the wind gusts or changes and I miss the wind shift.

I use wind flags - but they are simple streamers - and often the wind changes before the change shows up on the streamers.

Tim,

Your .30 RAW is definitely liking the AEA 45g pellets, after seeing all of these EBR 8X11” target cards. Your wind reading, especially in those Meeker typical wind conditions, isn’t too shabby either. Good solid scores, keep it going.

@EPG and @tommyb thanks for the encouragement guys. Heading to the range again today. With more 6-9 winds with gusts to 17 forecast for today, seems lots of patience are in order... Plan to work some 50Y N50 practice in too since we have another match this coming Saturday.

Hey, we’ll forgive you for Saturday’s N50 match if you are a bit lower in scoring than usual. The important focus is on the right task for September 17th start. The continued 100 yard practice in these winds has to help your PAC strategy.

Regardless of any future results, you’ll meet some great colleagues and friends from past matches and make indelible memories.

Tim - does PAC have a 100Y slug Benchrest venue? I’m guessing ‘no,’ but some of you guys might try and push the idea for future consideration, only if enough of the pellet only shooters want to see it. Might be too much logistically to include.

My Panthera is driving me mad!

Check out the target - groups numbered 1 through 5. All shot with the same slugs (from the same tin), the same MV, in the same conditions. The rifle is tethered and shot from a very sturdy Randolph front rest with an Edgewood rear bag. The scope is a Nightforce 1-55 Competition. The rifle is tight - no loose parts

Group 1 is starting to form. Group 2 looks good. Group 3 is great. Group 4 starts to open up. Group 5 opens up some more.

This is typical - this is nuts!.
