Haha stay out of my head! That taipan looks so good. I’ve been following the threads on here related to it and it’s not been the smoothest role out from what I can tell. But considering the reputation Taipan has I have no doubt they will get it sorted. That hammer less design is cool.
I’m also exclusively a slug shooter. I’ll put a tin or two of pellets through a new gun just check it out but because of the wind and terrain here is all slugs for me. I like guns that can shoot slugs without a bunch of extra($$$$) mods. I don’t wanna have to buy a barrel/liner to make it shoot slugs.
I’ve seen people having issues the EQ too as it’s new. Mostly the regulator needs a little encouragement to move haha and you gotta dry fire it a lot to get the reg to settle. Beyond that it’s mostly just been playing with different slugs to find what it likes best. All the evidence is showing that it likes them kinda heavy. With the reg at 2400psi it’ll laugh the 78gr griffins at 780.. no tuning… I got the 75gr up to 820fps already too. Not to mention the magazine is actually deep enough to hold the super long boattails.
I bought mine after they did the Trigger “fix” so I’m not sure what it was like before but it’s fine now. The first stage is short and the break is a little long? Hard to describe but it doesn’t feel heavy per se.. just that it’s kinda long to pull. I haven’t adjusted it yet because it’s forcing me to improve my trigger technique.
Beyond that I’ve got no complaints to report yet. As annoying as the reg is to adjust the standard deviations I’m seeing on the chrono are Wild… it’s more consistent than my barra and that thing will do sub MOA at 100y anytime I feel patient enough to try.

You might consider any iteration of Kalibrgun Crickets or Snipe or even a Brocock Sonoran souped up by AOA with a Sub-MOA barrel. Another is the FX Wildcat MK3 Sniper or Maverick. All available around $1500. Someone mentioned Red Panda. It's an accurate gun and upcoming in the BR circuit, but it weighs at least 17 pounds. It need wheels.

Yeah I mentioned red panda for different reasons. It’s a benchrest gun I wouldn’t hunt with it either.

Nice. Yea that karma looks nice and the reg on the Gen 2 challenger pro are like that. I have to dry for twice to clear the plenum, probably because of the size in assuming. What's the Max you can turn the reg on the karma?

I emailed PJ Clarke at DonnyFL/Karma and he says he doesn’t like to take it above 2800psi but 3k would probably be okay. But I get the impression he’s not a heavy slugger. So far I’ve pushed the gun up to 110fpe. The problem is I’m a snob about speed haha… I’d rather shoot a 55gr at 950fps than a 78gr boattail at 810fps.. still experimenting.

Haha I know right?…. But im not gonna argue that one way is better over the other either. I just wanna minimize the time of flight/drop… plus I love the sound the slugs make when they come in hot

Definitely.. I've been shooting 185gr slugs out of my .51 megalodon. They are moving over 1000 fps and you should hear how they sound coming in.Haha I know right?…. But im not gonna argue that one way is better over the other either. I just wanna minimize the time of flight/drop… plus I love the sound the slugs make when they come in hot

Well I’m glad the one guy that will defend karma to his grave loves them and has had good luck. For me and me personally having no first hand experience with karma have to go off what I read. I’ve read a pretty decent amount of negative things about particularly the eq. That is all I have to go by. Yes there are also many negative posts about FX. The difference is they have sold probably 100x more guns. Therefore, at this point in time I’m not willing to take the karma journey 
. The closest experience I have that relates to all of this is having owned a Skout epoch. That was a relatively new gun on the market. I personally had zero mechanical or functional issues. Now go read the last several weeks of the everything epoch/evo thread. Plethora of problems all over the place. To be honest I probably wouldn’t buy another one at this point in time even though I had a great experience . To each their own like said above it’s all opinion. Maybe karma will change my mind down the road. It’s certainly open.

True. I'm the opposite though. If I see a gun I like I buy it and that's about it. … it’s not about Karma. I just don’t like what I perceive to be as snobbery. You also kinda proved my point with your argument. You had a Skout and zero issues, but it you look right now lots of issues…you say you wouldn’t by another one but why? I’m on the forums for info too but ultimately my own experience is what I have to value the most. Sounds like you had a good experience with Skout.

All the guns shipped after April 15th have already had the fix installed. Beyond that it’s very adjustable. The adjuster is just in a weird spot. I just did mine the other day and it’s really nice now. Good solid break with a light pull. Is it match grade? Probably not but oh well…
The regulator is annoying to adjust because it doesn’t want to move much without settling so you have to dry fire a lot. I’ll be honest in that I’m struggling to find the right tune for it. The hammer spring is very heavy and the plenum is much bigger than I’m used to. If you leave the reg low and shoot pellets this gun is a breeze. A high power slug tune is more complicated than I expected. Haven’t figured out if it’s slug picky or if I’m overspinning some of these slugs.
That being said I shot 3 jackrabbits last night from 20yards on the move to 75y with 60gr slugs. It’s a solid hunting rifle.
Anyways to each their own. The deeper I get into this hobby the more I’m starting to think that a lot of people claim to be tuners but they don’t actually wanna tune. Not accusing you of that btw. I just wonder how many complaints, on any gun, are driven by people who see a sick a$$ gun on a review video but get pissed when it doesn’t do the same thing out the box. That was my whole point with the FX argument. How many dudes are out there crying because they think $2,500 means they should be banging Hyrax at 200y like Matt Dubber? Lol, maybe I just need bigger dreams because I feel pretty rad dropping squirrels with my 250z at 125y
For me I kinda like the challenge of figuring out a new gun. Is it stupid? Probably. Especially when considering I’m pretty new to all this. But I did it with the barra lol. Not gonna lie it makes me smile when randos message me and say “how do I tune my 250z like yours.” I’m hoping I can do something similar with the EQ. Not for money or clout. Just because it’s fun. I share everything I learn… oh but if any of the companies wanted to send me guns to play with I wouldn’t be mad at that.

My feelings looking at the big picture is that consumers are too accepting of manufacturers short comings. I see it all the time. Having to fix things on a brand new expensive gun out of the box. Goes across all brands and not just this hobby. You will see gripe threads about things, even crossing to customer service, but the post will always not name the brand or vendor. Never understood it. I don’t know what the exact answer is other than calling a spade a spade. We live in a time that info can be put out and received so easily and quickly. It just has to be done. In the end we as individuals have to make our own choices based on that info we just need complete good information.Oh lawd not this again

As far as Skout I wouldn’t shy away from them now really due to leaks or problems such as those described in the threads. For me it is the fact I perceive them as being in a still figuring out phase. They have changed barrel designs it seems 100 times and just leaves a bit of a chaos feeling in my gut. When that is narrowed down, proven and seems solid I would in fact look at them again.

Never thought of it that way in relation to the companies before but it makes sense to me. Ever since the billionaires managed to destroy unions the quality of manufacturing has gone down across the board. lol don’t @me to argue union politics
. I’m not here for any of that pro or con. Just pointing out that when people say “they don’t make them like they used to” the “used to” part was typically in unionized shops. Companies used to be able to mass produce things with actual skilled labor. Now it’s “at will” hiring and poorly trained people with high turnover.As a machinist that’s what keeps the shop I work at in business. If you need something that will actually hold .0005” tolerances you gotta pay us $$$ to run it. But it’s a sad state of affairs across the board. Idk what the answer is but my default is “maybe there should be less billionaires.”
I listened to a podcast interview with the head engineer for Skout awhile back and it was pretty cool. Seems like a really interesting company and quality product. I haven’t kept up enough to follow all the barrel change stuff but yeah that would give me pause too.
