Field Target & 10-Meter Offhand & Risk/Reward Silhouette - Delaware County PA Field & Stream - Sun. 8/3

Delaware County Field & Stream Association DCFSA
713 Chester Creek Road, Brookhaven PA 19015

Field Target sight-in opens at 07:45 at the Air Rifle Range at the top of the hill.
(Drive past the clubhouse, drive uphill past the shotgun fields on your right, continue to the end of the lane.)

Safety meeting at 08:50, Field Target match starts at 09:00.

The Field Target match (in the ‘Field Target Forest’ behind the clubhouse) has ten lanes, three target per lane, each target shot twice. One standing lane, one kneeling lane. The August 3rd match has a course Troyer of 30.6.
By popular demand, this match has LARGE kill zones on the standing lane targets…interesting!

AND…10-METER OFFHAND COMPETITIONS!...

Right after the Field Target match (around noon), 10-meter offhand competitions open at the Air Rifle Range.

Each competition has 20 scored shots - using rifle, or pistol, or both!
The targets are standard 10-meter ISSF airgun rifle, and airgun pistol targets.
Ten minutes for twenty scored shots, unlimited sighters.
Use your Field Target gun, or bring a specific 10-meter rifle or pistol, or bring whatever airgun you want (.22-caliber, 25 foot-pound limit.) Modern and/or ‘old school’ guns are great…let’s see ‘em shoot!
Any sights/scopes/red dots are allowed…there will be classifications based on equipment.
If you don’t like your first score, you are welcome to do it again, and again!

AND…A ‘RISK/REWARD’ SILHOUETTE CHALLENGE!...

For the second time ever, DCFSA will host a ‘Risk/Reward Silhouette’ challenge.
This challenge takes place alongside the 10-meter competition at the Air Rifle Range.

There are two silhouette stands: one at 20 yards and one at 30 yards.
Each stand has twenty ‘one-tenth scale’ targets - five Chickens, five Turkeys, five Pigs, and five Rams.
10 offhand shots per stand, 20 shots per match.
[4-points per Chicken], [3-points per Turkey], [2-points per Pig], [1-point per Ram].
Multiple shots may be taken at a single target. Targets on each stand can be shot in any order.
Five minutes to shoot ten shots per stand. No shooting jackets, no shooting gloves, (.22-caliber, 20 foot-pound limit.). Piston rifle class & PCP rifle class.
The highest score so far is 42 (out of 70 possible)...can you top that???

IF weather forces us to forego the Field Target match, we will still enjoy the 10-Meter and Risk/Reward Silhouette events under roof.
Bring your airguns, bring your pellets, bring your zing!

Fee for all three events…$10.00…deal of the century!

Once again, I love your match format; especially the silhouette. It’s too bad that I am so far away. I’m going to have to set the risk / reward silhouette up here in my backyard and see how I score. If I don’t embarrass myself too badly I’ll post my own “unofficial“ score and see how well I compare.😁

WOW, what a turnout today…18 shooters came in from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Connecticut for a great day at Field Target, and to break some new records in the après events…happy to see everyone! DCFSA hasn’t seen this many Field Target shooters since pussy was a kitten! (Old British saying…sorry if I offended anyone.) A sweet weather day - 70’s F temps, a few light breezes, no precipitation, lovely. Good to see even family members joining us (Hector)…perhaps the next generation of Field Target champions?

The ten Field Target lanes were just large enough to handle this number of shooters. Folks liked the LARGE kill-zones on the standing lane targets, even if they were still difficult. Sad that Mike Harris had to drop out midway through the Field Target match, but glad that he volunteered as Marshall for the remainder of the match. Some equipment anomalies weren’t discovered until the end of the match (Laura)…sometimes we learn the hard way! Overall - great shooting, and great fellowship among the Field Target friends here today.

After the Field Target match, some had to leave, and the rest retired to the Air Rifle Range for 10-Meter and Risk/Reward Silhouette shooting.

Impressive the number of pistoleros competing in the 10-Meter competition after the Field Target event. 20 shots-for-score at a ISSF-style 4-bull targets. Mike Harris walked away with the top-dog score in pistol…go Mike!

Even more impressive was Leo Gonzales knocking over the teeny chickens in the Risk/Reward Silhouette…with a spring gun no less! Leo’s score puts him as the current Master of the Universe in Risk/Reward Silhouette…yay Leo!

Also, an audacity award to Brian Wagner & Justin Hess for attempting the Risk/Reward Silhouette with iron-sighted pistols, shooting one-handed at 20 & 30 yards…a whole new class!

For their help in making today a great one…BIG thanks to three individuals:

George Riley for his behind-the-scenes sight-in field cleanup, handling the event finances, and overall airgun support at DCFSA.

Mike Harris for the safety briefing, volunteering as Field Target Range Marshall, and officiating the pistol 10-meter event.

Last but not least, to Rich Carango - who is just getting into airguns and came to see the events - and ended up ‘getting volunteered’ as an impartial judge to score 10-meter targets for us. Much appreciated!

One last note…to avoid a schedule conflict with the 2025 AAFTA Nationals at Rockville Fish & Game in Vernon Connecticut…the DCFSA October 5th Field Target match is rescheduled to October 12th.

Here’s the scores…

H'mmm...a Saturday session for 10-Meter and Risk/Reward Silhouette...interesting idea!
Let's take a poll at the Sunday Sept. 7th Field Target match to gauge interest.
Perhaps Sunday...or a weekday evening? (There is outdoor lighting at the Air Rifle Range.)
George Riley is also trying to get airgunners to attend informal matches. (I will ask George for details.)

Laura and I may be a little far away for a weeknight thing, but a Saturday when there's no competing ft events is workable.

But appreciate you and DCFSA looking to expand airguns events!
